Default 1995 civic lx auto idling problem.....help?

Hey guys,

I have a 1995 Civic LX automatic and it currently has an idling problem. The idle sits right at 750+/- rpm. When the car idles at a stop light in any gear, it would start choking and wanting to stall. When the car is running, it drives no problem at all. I changed out the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires and distributor. It still has the same problem. Any ideas guys?

Change or clean your IACV.

Btw, if I'm sitting at a light and put it in Neutral, the car would be fine...

How would I go upon changing the IACV?

Thanks!

hmmm...i have a couple of solutions. have you replaced you pcv valve? most of the time it's little stuff like the pcv valve that gets over looked. try replacing it, it's only $3.

also, how many miles do you have on this motor?

your IACV is located right behind your intake manifold with 1 electrical harness plug connected to it and 2 black coolant lines connecting to it. it is held on by 3 or 4 bolts. once removed use some brake cleaner and spray it down pretty well, spray both holes and make sure all dirt comes out. let dry before installing back in and make sure correct electrical harness is plug back in.

also if your car has a FITV, check this also. it is located right under your throttle body with a couple coolant lines connected to it. some cars has this some cars dont. but this could cause idle problems. if you manage to take it out you can replace it or just clean it with brake cleaner and turn the "donut" looking thing back into its hole. hard to explain but you can do a search for this and there are threads with great pictures and installation instruction.

check for vacuum leaks. while motor is one and running spray brake cleaner around all vacuum hose near intake manifold area, if you hear a difference in engine noise then there's your leak. have the correct hose replace.

check timing. use timing light and make sure cams are running in sync with crank. i had a problem with idle once, end up being this.

check intake manifold, throttle body, head gasket for leaks. this too can cause idle problems.

a lot of things can cause idle problems but these are some things you can check on top of what you have already done. good luck.

Wtf are you talking about? You really think I dont know where it's located, or better yet not know what it means?

Dude, your just too stupid for me to even argue with...to make a comment like that, without even knowing how much knowledge i have is pretty pathetic.

yeah and quite the brainiac you were to recommend the PCV valve, but maybe you could have possibly HELPED the OP out more instead of bashing other HT users from simply suggesting ideas...

Here ya go OP, this might help you a little more than an oh so intelligent description by burt backaratt over there..

And also https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1844067 That's a write-up on how to clean your TB, IACV, and FITV... Good Luck man...
