1994 honda civic vx e vtec NEEDS PERFORMANCE
I have d15z1 motor in my civic hb and I was wondering if I put a y5 intake manifold on it and a b16 throttle body and say a header if I would pick up any HP. Or if anyone knows any other things like those that could gain me some extra power.

Then find you a regular vtec SOHC.
You'll still get great gas mileage, and it'll be alot easier to compete with one.
And their cheap. : D

Not gonna happen, you've got a ridiculously long geared transmission coupled with a 92hp engine. Intake, header, exhaust is basically worthless on a D-series. Either enjoy the awesome mileage only a VX can provide or swap in something else.

You wont get anywhere near what you want out of it, you'll probably net under 5hp. For the cost of all the stuff you could probably pick up a used Z6, or even find an EX/Si transmission, hell even a DX would make a difference.

Your not going to get 20 hp out of that motor by upgrading it with your
listed parts. And whatever you may get isn't really going to be worth the
trouble and/or cost.
Maybe swap it out for something better, and make up some of the cost
by selling the Z1? There are people out there seeking out those engines.
It's an extreme fuel economy motor, and it was kind of ahead of it's time.

i wish i had a VX.
but it seems like redjeep303 is more concerned with power. if I were you, I'd sell the VX, or drop in a new motor. it's not just going to get you anywhere. no hate for you or the car. i love the VX, but your wants don't mesh with the VX's abilities.

Z1 use some pretty spindly rods, if you're gonna spend that kinda money you might as well swap in a worthwhile engine first. Z6s are legitimately good engine for boost (especially if you build them) Z1's just flat out suck for anything but mileage. Also it's gonna be a dog unless it's in boost. Z6 head on a VX block with VX pistons is around 8:1 compression.

I wonder if it would get better mileage than a stock VX, hatch shell would be a fair bit lighter than the HX coupe, especially if you used a manual rack, HX wheels, manual windows and locks etc.

i just had a 96 civic hx that i did a fully built z6 turbo swap and it put down 275whp but i sold it to get my supra so i got the vx as a daily driver for 400 bucks but i might throw an exhaust on it and a header just for looks lol
