1994 Honda Civic overheating
1994 Honda Civic overheating, and I can’t pin point the problem. I don’t want to go ahead and replace the head casket and find out the problem still there. It is overheating and the coolant moving from the radiator to the overflow tank and out from the cover of the tank. The temperature gauge always staying little below the middle and never goes up. I have the car checked by a mechanic friend and told me that it is not the head casket because it is not smoking or the oil has any cooling in it. So he bleeds the car and said to check the radiator for blockage in the cooling cells inside. He said that if the head casket is bad, the car will not run for an hour and will get overheated very quickly.
I replaced the thermostat, the radiator and the pressure cap (Honda Parts, bigger radiator) and the problem still there, cooling moving from the radiator to the reservoir tank, but not at the same speed as before due to the bigger radiator.
I hot wire the fan with a switch to turn it on when ever I want, still capable or turning by it self. I turn the fan on when ever I put the AC on or after driving for a while. (No problem with the fan, it is kicking, but the mechanic was surprised that it will not stay on if I shut off the car to cool the engine). I hot wire the fan so I can keep the car running cooler until I find out what is the deal.
I always read the comments and I learned a lot from here. If anyone has any suggestion for me I would appreciate it. Thank in advance

I had a similar problem...one of the mechanics I spoke to told me theres air getting in somewhere, he told me it was possible that there was a crack somewhere, most likely the head though. You would need to have the head pressure tested to know for sure. The reason its overheating is because all the coolant is getting pushed out to your overflow tank and leaves no coolant for your radiator.
I dont know if thats your problem for sure, but thats what happened to me. Some of the other guys know a whole lot more, someone will help you out

its your head gasket, i had a very small hole in my head gasket it wouldn't overheat for a month, then all of a sudden i'd get really hot and i'd loose all my coolent, just replace it

I SECOND THE MOTION....Just 3 months ago I had to change my head gasket too....I drove on my weakened head gasket about 500 miles or more and it never fully blew on me. I didn't see smoke either....From what I am hearing from you about the coolant not getting in the radiator or to the engine properly...it sounds like my car when the head gasket was going... That sux
