1994 honda civic leaking trans fluid
Well I had my car parked and running today...and when I moved it I noticed a puddle of Trans fluid...so I parked it and jacked it up and found that it was coming from where the driver side axle goes into the transmission. My first thought was that seal thats there...well as i am laying there looking i realize that the axle was about a 1/2inch out of the transmission. So i grabbed it and pushed it all the way back in...so i started messing with it some more and pulled it out of the transmission about 2 inches and the rest of the fluid came pouring out.
Never heard any sounds of breakage or anything...except for the puddle of fluid!
I know there is like a C pin on the axle...could this be my problem?? has anyone ever heard of this??...just trying to get an idea...my buddy is bringing me the socket for the axle nut in like an hour. So we can pull it out... But if this is my problem do I need a whole new axle or can I just get the little C pin??

You also need to separate the lower ball joint to remove/install the axle. Whether or not the axle needs replacing, you should also install a new axle seal in the differential to avoid future leaks.

Ok thanks Ron! Will do! Do you think the C clip is my problem?? And if so, can i just buy the Clip itself or will I need a whole new axle?

Got the axle out....the c clip was still on...however it seemed very loose....I was able to remove it with just my hands! So while I had it off I tried to put it back in with out the c clip and it went right in. I pulled it back out and inspected the seal...from what I can tell the seal seems ok...however I went ahead and ordered a seal and c clip from Honda. So I hope this will fix it...but the parts wont be in until Tuesday!
Are the C clips supposed to be really loose like that?

A somewhat loose C-clip is normal. It was a good idea to purchase a new seal as damage is not always apparent visually.
My guess is that the axle was never fully inserted and seated into the differential when originally installed. I posted a useful tip in the Axle Installation thread for getting the axle fully seated.

Thanks Ron! I was thinking the same thing that it was never fully in, ive only had the car for 3 months. And the guy that put the new motor in did it in his garage. Only paying like 13 bucks for seal and clip!! And then the trans fluid! Wish I had the funds just to go ahead and swap it!
