Isnt the chassis code embedded into the serial number of the car?

yup.

del Sol S is EG1
del Sol VTEC is EG2
del Sol Si is like EH6 or something like that.

I believe the chassis code is the 4th, 5th, and 6th digit of the VIN.

Sorta...

Any del Sol with a D15 is EG1 (SOHC 8-valve, 16-valve or VTEC-E)
Any del Sol with a B16 is EG2 (DOHC VTEC)
Any del Sol with a D16 is EH6 (SOHC VTEC)

Yes, but one teeny tiny quibble.....the 1996-1997 del Sol S with a D16Y7 is chassis code EH6, but its a SOHC non-VTEC not SOHC VTEC. But you're right BDC, the 1994 del Sol S model is EG1 chassis code.
