1994 Civic driver's side seat broke
Got spooked on the highway when my seat broke and the seat back collapsed. I had to drive leaning forward the rest of the way home.
I looked over and on the starboard/right side of the seat and a metal piece attached to the hinge broke off. Has this happened to anyone? Would repairing it (welding, etc) make it as strong as before?
Here's a pic of the metal piece that broke. The piece swivels up and down on the hinge and is normally attached to the side frame of the seat back.

hard to see b ut it looks like the rail broke off a track
if so, i think you can put it back on track but it'd easily come back out, you may just have to replace the entire seat rail

Re: 1994 Civic driver's side seat broke
Regarding the original problem the piece was rewelded and the seat was fine after the welding. This was back in 2010.
A few days ago something else in that same seat broke. I was in the drive through and unbuckled my seat to get my money in my right front pocket. I leaned my shoulders against the seat back and thrust my pelvic area upward in order to get into my pocket. The seat went clunk and the seat back no longer is as upright as it was before, even when pulling up the seatback lever. I also cannot slide the seat forward or back as the lever under the seat is stuck.
Has anyone had a full seat repair done, including new yellow foam and upholstery?
I will take the seat out the car this weekend to examine it and see if I can determine the problem and possible repairs.

If you are thinking about reupholstering the seat with new foam, you are better off going to the junk yard and pulling a good seat and reupholster.
The seat frame and rails aren't worth repairing in my opinion since it's broken twice now.

Get fresh rails and reinforce them, put an end to this nonsense. Sounds pretty dangerous tbh after twice it would make me nervous.
::edit:: just realized it wasn't the rails that broke the second time.

The second time I think it might be a tooth on the "gear" or whatever mechanism it is that holds the seatback at the various angles.
