1993 Honda Civic: Code #14, sputtering at 1200 RPM when accellerating.
Hey Honda-Tech,
Having a stupid, and weird issue with my car. It's a 1993 civic hatch, with a mini me swap. Car works flawless except for this little hitch. It's throwing code 14 (IACV). Makes the car kind of rev up and down at 1200 rpm when in neutral. When accelerating in 1 and 2 gear it will make the car sputter and jerk around until it gets up past 2000 rpm
I have removed the IACV and cleaned the living hell out of it. Sometimes the car wont throw the code, and the car works 100% perfect. I can't see it being a bad ECU because the code isn't on all the time, sometimes it goes away.
Im not that smart with engines, so Im just checking to see if anyone may of had the same issue or know a solution to this. I just don't want to throw an IACV on it since they are 200$. Any suggestions will be much appreciated

Code 14 should only affect the idle speed.
How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor?
Have you bled the cooling system? Checked for vacuum leaks?
Have you cleaned and adjusted the FITV?

It idles low when the CEL is on and Code 14 is thrown. It idles normal when the CEL doesn't come on.
I have a new cap and rotor button ready to go on, plugs are 3 months old. Cooling system has been bled of air. I cleaned the FITV. Should I take the cover off and spin it all the way in?

Both are the truth....
Code 14 is thrown, when i apply fuel via the accelerator pedal it hits 1200 and bounces up and down at 1200 rpm. Which causes me to sputter and buck when trying to take off in 1st gear.
But when there is no accelerator being pressed and is just sitting there idling it idles low.

But when the Code 14 goes away the car works perfect. Not a hitch what so ever. The car only does it when Code 14 is being thrown. haha I dont know.
The FITV may need to be adjusted, I did remove it and cleaned it. Took it apart, put it back together. Do I just take the plate off and spin it with a screw driver until I get the idle I want?

Unplug the IACV and measure the resistance across the two terminals of the sensor itself.
The low idle speed is only when the engine is warm, right? A problem FITV would cause a high and/or fluctuating idle, so I don't think that's your problem. Click the FITV link in my signature.

I used that link to clean the FITV a few months ago. Low idle is sometimes when its cold, and warm. It usually doesn't matter, sometimes it will idle low when cold, sometimes idle low when warm too.
What should the resistance read?

A low cold idle speed, not a low warm idle speed, could be caused by the FITV. A problem with the IACV could cause both, hence the reason for me trying to focus you on the IACV, PCV, and idle adjustment.
