1993 del sol shifting problem when cold.
ok i have a great 1993 del sol si and only when the outside temperature is below freezing this happens. i get in the car, and go, and when i pull out onto a road, it wont shift out of first for a little bit. when it does this, i hear the first gear whine as it accelerates all of the way to redline, without shifting! after a minute it quiets up, shifts fine and then after that it is fine until the car cools off completely. but this only happens when its below freezing, and it happens reliably when cold enough. the tranny fluid was changed my the dealer about 2 years ago. and other then this the only thing the trans does all of the time since i got it, is it always shifts a little too hard when driving nicely, and it has always had a rough downshift, i think it is the 2-1 [maybe the 3-2 but i doubt it.] please help me out! fastrc2@hotmail.com

If i were you, i would always try to change my tranny fluid constantly. It is a very simple task to do and much easier than doing a oil change on a car. If i were you, i would try and replace the tranny fluid. And i have the same problem as you as wells, what helps me is to let my car idle for 15 minutes before i leave to my destination.

Well, if you don't wait to get to normal operating temperature you won't get normal operation. . I have the same problems when my car isn't warmed up yet.

Re: (PinoyDelSol)
ok sure ill buy that. yea if the tranny is frozen maybe itll shift late or itll shift hard, but this isnt shifting at all and it sounds like it has a bad bearing. but it all goes away so i know the bearings arent locked. does anybody know if the tranny has a vacuum operated throttle valve?
