Icon2 1993 Civic Automatic Tranny Problem

Ok here's the story, I have a 1993 Honda Civic EX 1.6L Automatic, I bought it like two years ago after a while the tranny started to 'slip' on the D4 if I go 25mph or more only runs good on D3 then after a while the Reverse stopped working. I tried to fix it using those "Tranny Honey" and other additives but nothing worked.

Then I bought a used tranny for like $70 the seller stated that it was working when they pulled it out and that they took it out because the car was totaled from a crash on the back. How can I find out if that tranny really works without having to actually try it on my car and what else I need to purchase to install it (like gaskets or some kit etc)????

^You can have it checked out by a certified tranny shop.

That's about it. With used engines and trannys, you basically just buy them for the housing and rebuild.

Its probably going to cost more than the $70 he paid for the transmission to get it checked out. For what its worth '92 - '95 Civic transmissions are pretty tough, especially compared to lot of honda's other automatics. I'd take my chances if it was me.

^I had a chance to buy a 5spd to replace mine with a bad ISB for $125 with a supposed 75xxx miles. I should've done it but I chickened out. So, I really dunno what I'm gonna do when it goes.
