1993 Civic with 26,000 miles, should i buy it?
Ok here is the deal my 80 year old neighbor has decided to sell one of there cars. They are the original owner of a 1993 Civic and it only has 26,000 miles on it and the body is near perfect! So i asked them how much and they said $2000.00. It is 100% original, never in a accident, almost never driven in the winter or the rain and always garaged. Heck ive been there neighbor for two years and have barely seen the car lol. I currently have a 1993 Del Sol with 168,000 miles with the usual Honda rust being a Michigan car and even though i love it i figure how can i pass up a deal to have a practically new car! Im looking at buy a foreclosed home for cash so i would definately have to sell my Del Sol to buy there Civic. What is a car like this worth being an auto and a grandma car? Should i worry about a 16 year old timing belt ?

I would definately do the timing belt even though it's not to the recommended mileage.
I think you should keep the Sol, but my opinion there is biased.

buy it and use it as a solid DD. then after you buy your house, and if you have any extra income, you can look for a new project. I dont believe anyone would pay $5000 for a 93 civic no matter the miles. ITS STILL A 93!!! but it does sound like a great way to get a solid car with minimal maintenance issues for cheap. Yourll need to replace all belts, including timing belt and things like replace rubber hoses and coolant and such. The car is still 16 years old, and most rubber pieces crack when they are that old.

Replace timing belt.
A) keep it mint in a garage for another 15 years
B) Flip it
Either way BUY IT!

That's kind of messed up just buying their car to flip it. I know it's not a scam or anything, but it does seem a bit "unneighborly". And if I were your neighbor, and noticed that you sold the car a week after you bought it from me for the "neighbor price", I'd be pissed.
I assumed a lot here, though. If the $2k is a listed price for the general public (meaning not a "hey, you're my neighbor" price), I guess that'd be okay. But I have a good relationship with my neighbors. If I saw the same thing, I'd tell them that they can put it on ebay or up the price to $XXXX. That's just me.
Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd get rid of the 2-seater del Sol and get the Civic with 4 seats.

Ya i thought i could keep the Civic long enough to find the right buyer and then sell it and buy a rust free dohc Del Sol. Mine is a bone stock, no power steering, no a/c or options. Being that its still a blast to drive! But i would need to do some major work to fix the rust on the quarter panels if i kept my car :-(

Ive decided to buy it and keep it for the next 10-20 years...hell its a honda! I will replace the timing belt and any other hoses, etc needed. I will then sell my Del Sol and keep my eyes peeled for a rust free dohc Del Sol in the future. Thanks everyone for the insight.
