1992 Honda Civic sporadic electrical issues- low beams and dashboard
Greetings,
I am having some issues with my lights in my 1992 Honda Civic:
1.) The dashboard illumination is finicky. I would say that usually it is out, but I can make it turn on by moving the brightness dimmer down and back up. This has been going on for a long time.
2.) Recently, I have been having issues with the low beam headlights not working. Not a great pattern here, sometimes they turn on and sometimes they don't. The last time I tried to "force" them on by turning the switch multiple times between off and on and between high and low beams, I noticed some flickering before they went out. The high beams work just fine and have no issues. Also the effect happens simultaneously on both headlights, so it doesn't seem like a bulb issue?
There is an after market CD player but I feel like that went in long before either of these other issues started. It would be possible that it coincided with the dashboard issue but I'm not sure, but definitely long before the headlight issue.
As far as I know, there are no other electrical issues that I have though it would be harder to detect.
Thanks for any insight!

Try cleaning the electrical contact points inside the light switch.
Unplug the dimmer switch and use a piece of wire to short the red wire terminal to the black wire terminal in the unplugged connector. Do the dash/cluster lights now reliably illuminate to full intensity? If so, replace the dimmer switch.

Concerning your headlights, is this a USDM civic or a CDM civic?
Canadian 92-95 civic's have added components in the circuit for daytime running lights and is why I'm asking.
