Default 1992 honda civic hatchback

I am looking at purchasing a 92 civic hatchback from friend. It has 210000 miles on it, manual tranny, manual windows and locks, & has been maintained faithfully. I am not the most mechanically inclined person so I was just wanting to come here and see if ya'll can give me some things to look for or have checked out before I buy this car. The asking price is $1,200. Thanks and God bless!\

you stole that.

to the OP if its your friend should he be trying to rip you off? drive it and look for smoke... ask to get on it and look at high rpms too. check the tires, hoses, belts, windows, rust, oil leaks, overall aesthetics of the car.

Being that you are in texas the condition of the car should be very mint condition. I would jump on a 92 civic rust free HB in a heart beat.

for one...no 92-95 hatches came with power anything. the si's are the only ones that had anything special. lol and they only had the d16z6 motor and sunroof and rear wiper, and power steering and passenger airbag. i think thats all the si has to offer over a regular. thats alot but the si's didnt even have power windows or power door locks. but with 210,000 miles on it, i would swap it. **** i would swap it anyway. i have a 93 hatch cx and the motor in that thing is useless! lol but i paid $2000 for mine and it has 165,00 miles on it and was just repainted. depending on what it looked like, it would be worth that much. you will like it though, i love mine!

I have the car today and have been driving it around. It takes a little while to get full power in each gear as I shift, in other words when i take off it is a little slow to respond but about half way through each gear you can feel it grab hold and things feel nice and smooth. I don't know what that is all about??? When you say "swap it", i am assuming you are talking about swaping the engine out. If that is the case, what would you put in it? Keep in mind i am not at all interested in speed and racing, I am only interested in having a vehicle that will be reliable and get great gas mileage (better than the 10-12 mpg i get in my work truck). Thanks.

Any ideas on what's causing the acceleration response i am getting in each gear? Starts out a little rough, about half way through each gear you can feel it "grab hold" and really run smooth!?!?? Brian

If you're looking for fuel efficiency in a new motor, then look for one of the D-Series with VTEC-E (I can't think of the engine code off the top of my head...anybody?)

Not too sure about the issue you're describing...but with 210K you can't expect it to run PERFECT
