Default 1992 CX problems....

Alright well i'm picking up a 92 cx tomorrow (the 92 VX I wanted fell through last week) and it has a few problems that I am wondering if you guys could help me with.

#1: The car runs kind of rough below 1.5krpms....but is fine above that, so is there anything off the top of your head it might be?

#2: The speedometer jumps up to 35-40mph once you get moving in first gear and obviously this is wrong, so what could be wrong here?

Thanks for the help in advance

Yeah, #1 sounds like the typical plugs/plug wires/rotor and cap when they're going on Hondas. At least from what I've seen/felt/experienced. Sometimes if ur low on money it's usually just the wires, but I would definitely replace all 3.

As for your speedo issue I'm not sure, only thing I can suggest is using a different cluster temporarily (it unscrews w/ 4 screws and just unplugs, then any 92-95 civic cluster is plug 'n play) and seeing if it does it or seeing if that cluster does it in another car. If it's your car that's doing it you may wanna check the VSS.

EDIT:
Other problems if it's not the cluster and not the VSS are probably either a weak ground or a short in the harness.

plugs/wires/cap/rotor- I use the regular old autozone stuff, it works great. Ask for oem plugs/wires (I think they're NGK).

Bought my cluster w/tach off ebay, about $50 + shipping, also works great
