1992 Civic SI Motor
Just looking for the specs on the stock 1992 Civic SI Hatchback motor. It is a D16Z6 motor correct? Vtec or Non-Vtec? (valve/cam cover does not say VTEC like the B16) HP and TQ ratings would be great too, along with motor potential and if it takes well to mods.
Im tring to decide wether or not to turbo this motor or swap in a B16A.
Thanks

you can search on HT..
if you want to make sure what motor is in your car.. when you open your hood the motor model is written on the lower left hand side of the motor..

ok since im nice...
your motor is a d16z6 1.6L sohc vtec 125hp tq somewhere around 110, with bolts ons it would be fairly quick but if you want some real power youre gonna need a turbo, personally id boost it rather than swapping a b16 in it would be faster and cheaper especially if you piece together youre own kit

Re: 1992 Civic SI Motor (Yeung)
EDIT cool thats a lot for the info. I think I will sell the B16 and rebuild/turbo the D16Z6.
Yes the motor is out and it is a D16Z6. I was just confused weather or not it is a vtec or not because it does not state it on the valve cover like all other vtec motors Ive seen. from what I found on the search, it seems this is a SOHC 1.6L Vtec motor. Correct?

yes it is. you also have a obdI p28 ecu that runs up to 7200 rpm. a small turbo does wonders for it. for generic stock car info, you could've used any of these: http://www.autotrader.com , google, etc. otherwise, you will get lots of replies telling you to search.

WHY???????? why not boost the b16, if ur lookin 4 power the b16 is the engine to do it with, a boosted b16 will house a boosted d16, id do some more research on that one, you can get b16's revin to 10k if u know what ya doin gl on the build

Re: 1992 Civic SI Motor (civictech22)
Already have a lot into the B16 and don't have any left over for go-faster parts. Idealy turboing the B16 would obviously be best, but $ is a restraint as I have two other cars I have to maintain/build up. This is just a fun car a couple friends and I are working on.
With the $ that the b16 cost when its all said and done, we could build up the d16 to be a pretty stout turbod' motor.

This is correct. You can also look on the corner of the valve cover for a small gold cylinder. This is a VTEC solenoid and proves that you have VTEC.

Re: 1992 Civic SI Motor (Ricey McRicerton)
Yea I noticed that solenoid. The motor has 200K on it. It needs a new timing belt and tensonier at the very least, but I think I will do the water pump and head gasket while I am at it.
Also, how much boost will this motor take on stock internals? When are better springs, reainers, pistons and rods necessary?

Re: 1992 Civic SI Motor (Dr.Evil)
you'll need to do a leakdown/compression test to know if it's boost worthy with a 200k motor. I've got a D16y7 with about 120k on it and boost 8psi daily.
