Default 1992 CIVIC SI HATCHBACK w/ 99 GS-R SWAP--VTEC loud at 4400rpm but not loud at 5700rpm

I dont understand why vtec not loud at 5700rpm, I used to have a 98 integra gsr and it was loud at 5700rpm. My girlfriends 94 integra gsr is the same way too. SO why isnt my hatchback with 99 gsr swap the same??? IT ONLY sounds loud at 4400rpm....I am using a 94 gsr ecu with 99gsr with 99gsr engine harness, and 94 gsr catalytic converter. Also should i replace the civic radiator with integra radiator.

vtec does not engage twice, the noise you are hearing is secondarys! its ok if you dont hear those though check wiring of the secondarys! and why do you care so much about how loud vtec x over is? damn ricers! good luck, eric

just check your wiring. read through a few pages in the hybrid forum. theres a bunch on wiring the iab's from an obd2 b18c1 into an obd1 ecu and car. one of the wires, black i believe needs to be on a switched +12v. if its overheating swap the radiator, or for a dual core sol. or if you just want more peice of mind.

check out your wiring....I know your motor is an obd2 motor if im not correct but your running an obd1 ecu...you mite need to get a converter...

The VTEC kicks in at 4500rpm while the secondaries should be opening at 5800-6000rpm.

Try this:

Pop your hood and either have someone rev the motor past 6000rpm or rev it yourself by grabbing the throttle cable, and watch for the secondary butterfly to kick open. It will do this sitting still, so just try it. If you do not see the little arm thing moving and opening the butterflies up, then your secondaries need to be hooked up.

I don't think his gripe was necessarily about the lack of noise, but more a concern as to if the motor is 100% working right.

When u say watch the secondary butterfly when engaging vtec past 6000rpm... u mean where the intake manifold is....? so i have to take out my intake to view that? let me know thanks again.

You don't have to remove anything to see the butterfly opening up.

Simply look on the driver's side of the intake manfold while you rev the motor past 6000RPM and look for a brassy goldish skinny rod to open up a valve-looking thingy.

And it doesn't matter if the motor is OBD1 or OBD2 as long as you're running the OBD1 ECU - all the OBD2 plugs on the engine harness will plug right into any plugs under the 1992-1995 Civic hood.

I know this because I run my B18C5 like this. B18C5 engine harness plugs right into the underhood harnesses in the Civic and then just an OBD1 VTEC ECU and it's done. No convertor is needed this way.

I personally would never do the Teg dash swap.

One of my best friends did this in his 1992 CX hatch and it never really fit right. He had to cut some things to get it to sit low enough. even if you get the dash to fit good, the door panels won't match up at all.

There is a user here who custom made door panels by morphing his Civic and Integra door panels and it looks good, but it's by no means the easiest of mods to your Civic.

Also there are some things that need to be rewired in the cluster to get it to function right as well.

I'd just get a 1992-1995 Si/EX cluster. The tach goes to 9000rpm and it fits and plugs right in.
