1700 dollars in damage! Help me out..
Got my estimate for my car today and theres about 1700 dollars in damage. I was gonna do the body work myself because it is the right fender and bumper but I can't do the paint.. I could save a lot and i mean a lot of money. The problem is the paint, and when i asked him he said, that they prefer to do the work becuase they paint everything and blend it into the doors and crap, and he wouldn't gurantee it if they painted it. So i was gonna look around but i thought i'd ask on honda-tech what i should do. They said when they paint u have to take the stuff back off and paint the edge, which i understand, but then when i look at restored cars they are all primered and stuff and then they just tape off and paint with the parts on the car. Are these guys just trying to get a buck or are they legit? I need your help. thanks.

Any good shop will take it off the car and paint it.
Any "restored" cars you see with masking tape aren't spending a whole lot of money.

If it is just a bumper and fender I would hit up a local junkyard and look for something that had matching paint. I guess I wouldnt care though if the paint was a little off.

Why dont you just buy the bumper and fender (new or from a junkyard, wherever) then go to a body shop/import performance shop, have them paint it with the factory paint (which you could buy from the dealer I believe) and then install the parts yourself.

I bought some parts from partmartone.com good prices...paint is real nice..parts are ok(last fender didnt exaclty match up), but for 150 fender painted, and 170 for my bumper...and the 2 hours its tajkes to put on...id say good deal they are very easy to put on, i mena you can take a civic apart with a 10mm wrench lol...good luck

Re: (onefastex)
okay, there is no Factory paint. I think honda uses Sikkens, But its the color, If you use the color code in your door you can get an exact match to the original color, If you are worried about money find somebody in you crew that can paint. I would hook you up but I am in Ga.

Any shop worth their salt will ask you to bring the whole car in, just like you mentioned. If you just take them the fender and the bumper, and give them a color code, they can paint it, but there is no guarantee it will LOOK the same as your paint on YOUR car. It may be the same color, but think about how many years of weather your paint has seen... it's faded from the original color a bit.
You'll be happier if you take them the whole car and let them blend/tint the final product so it matches your current paint, rather than have a fender and bumper that look out of place.
BTW, the fender and bumper are real easy to replace, just have a friend to help you with the fender. As long as nothing underneath is damaged you should be golden.
[Just a clarification: do the fender/bumper replacement yourself, then take the whole car to the body shop for paint]
