Default 17 inch wheels on 98 Civic?

On Wednesday I'm going to be buying a set of 17 inch wheels with low profile tires on them from a guy I found on craigslist. He has them on his 2004 civic right now and he says they fit perfectly fine with no rubbing.

These are the rims: http://aftermarket.motegiracing.com/...d=4&groupid=23

17" x 7.5" +42

Will they fit my civic nicely?

EDIT: He also says his civic is lowered a little bit. My civic is stock everything.

06 civic and 98 civic have different bolt patterns, so it won't fit at all.

My bad, it is a 2004 civic. And he says the bolt pattern is 4x100. And in the pictures it has 4 lugs.

They're universal 4's. 8 holes, 4 set up for 4/100, 4 set up for 4/114.

I used to run a similar set of Motegi's on my 98. I ran them for about a month before the stupid harshness of zero tire started pissing me off, and the added rotational weight of the 17s absolutely DESTROYED acceleration.

Half of your suspension is in your tire. Running 17" tires will make your ride harsh, especially if you're used to your stock suspension. Bigger, heavier wheels means less power, which means slower acceleration.

TL;DR - They'll fit, but they'll make your car ride like ***. Slow ***.

I think you shouldn't go higher than 16" rims

do they come with tires too? The proper size tire is 215-40-17

82-05 civic use the same wheel offset and 4x100's

It's all personal preference, honestly. There are (a rare few) 17" wheels out there that keep their rotating weight near the hub, and actually give better response than some 14" and 15" wheels out there. Granted, they also run in the four digits per wheel.

Long story short, there's a reason some drag cars run 12" and 13" wheels. Small rear skinnies means less rotating mass, and small front wheels gives more rubber to flex and grip, rather than spin. The rotating mass trade off is marginal in the front, because rubber is heavy, but it's still a lot lighter than some dubs.

There's this awesome thing called a chargeback. Product not as advertised is a perfectly valid reason to file one. Some of you people need to stop just "putting up" with shitty customer service and take matters into your own hands. I've never had to "solve" a problem by taking a loss.

I had 18's on a Civic from a Prelude I sold. No rubbing but my suspension wasn't stock either. Lost a lot of power though. Wouldn't recommend them that big but they filled the wheels wells nicely.

I'm not really worried too much about power. I don't have the money to make my car fast. All I want is something cooler looking than steelies with hub caps. And I wanna keep my good fuel economy.

If you don't lower the car it will look like wagon wheels. They better be a 4x100 bolt pattern as well.

Heavier wheels will kill your gas mileage too. They hard to get moving at any level of acceleration.

1998 called - they want their 17s back.

Seriously though not a fan of anything larger than 16'' wheels on 96-00 Civic.

You guys.... 17s are not that big lol. There's LOTS of 17s that are lighter than the majority of 16 inch wheels you run. (Looking at you hellaflush) We're talking about an inch. It's not that drastic, and also 17s opens you up to the correct step size in tire for a 98 civic, which is 205/40/17.

I personally think 17's are going to be "in" soon, you'll see.

That being said, I run 16's on my EM1.

Meh.

Still not feeling it even when it's non-Motegi wheels.

I've seen the fads come and go, then come again, etc. The wheels posted are straight out of a 1997-1998 issue of Super Street. Motegi might not have been around then, but they carry on the tradition of cheap, cast, heavy, tired "tuner" style wheels.

I'm not trying to be a dick - just saying what came to mind when I saw the wheels in question.

I just checked the link I have in my original post and for some reason it showed the wrong rims.

These are the correct rim style:
