Default 15" or 17" rims

I'm stuck in picking out what size rims I would like to get. I Really want a 16" but they don't make the buddy clubs in 16", So I guess this would really come down to personal pick, but I would like to see what you guys have to say, I'm a weekend racer, so I do want a rim that would work to my advantage. What do you guys suggest, or is there another rim besides the kosei k-1 that look like the buddy clubs. Thanks for you input

15".

MUCH cheaper tires. Plus 17"s and up require V rated. This is not only overkill, but they can start at 250 and up per tire.
Also, 17s make your brakes look teeny and just look bad. Plus, with the added weight, unless u get a light pair of 17s, can put added stress on your shocks (if you got your stock suspension).

Now let me ask why you would choose the 15" over the 17"s?

I picked 15s because they are lighter, the tires are cheaper and the ride is slightly better.

you will get nothing but suggestions for 15's on this site. smaller diameter, usually lighter, and cheaper tires. but i personally like and run 17's. it's a looks thing and i like the extra traction, helps out in handling, braking, and launch.

location could also be a concern. you can eaily bend a 17' on crappy ny or philly roads. snowseason+ lots of traffic= lots of potholes and bumps. Florida has like the nicest roads so far that I have seen. no snow i guess

it is true though that the smaller 15'' will yield slightly better acceleration, but i feel the 17'' are much more stable at 110+ mph for example.

my guess is that about 90% of ht members run 15's , so asking the question here will not give you an unbiased opinon i think.

There are multiple H rated 17" tires on the market, do your research before posting misleading information. for arguments sake, you can get a 17'' 205/40/17 tire as cheap as near 50-60 bucks from Wanli or other budget brands. Kumho's at around 80-100 a pop would be a better budget choice. most 15" tires that I would consider start around 50$ I think, so the 17"s will add a premium but not like a huge amount.

. And i'm not sure how the extra weight would add stress to your shocks?!?!?!?!!? I've ran 17's on both stock and modified suspension setups, never had a problem in that regard.
and before we start debating these prices, keep in mind that a 205/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Position can also fetch a princely ~$200 sum. Depends on what you look for and where.

on the other hand, going with 17's will make your brakes look tiny, but that's just an incentive to go with bigger brakes 4 piston, cross drilled Wilwoods perhaps?

Cheers mate, and do what you want to do.

I'm not saying that I'm not doin my homework, but I do not believe 205/40/R17 is correct. The 205/40/R16 is right for a 6th gen civic, but with a 17" rim, the 40 profile is too much I believe, because this would throw off the diameter size, you'd need a 35 profile. Yea you can get a 40 profile, but itd be the wrong diameter of the tire. Thats what I meant, that 35 and 30 profiles are expensive. Yea, you can get cheap *** tires, but there gonna suck and I reccomend against tires that aren't safe. But if you ain't gonna be drivin in the rain or racing hard on corners, then the 50$ a piece tires should be alright for you.

It also depends on which rims you're going to end up getting... since you're a weekend racer, you should go for the smaller rims, but there's also the factor of wanting your car to look good to most people instead of pleasing fellow forum member.

Sure, 17 inch rims look cool, but there are some crappy and heavy looking ones out there... personally, I'd take a set of 15 inch SI rims (99-00) any day over some generic, fake looking 3 piece rim any day.

On my car, I've had the 14 (185/65) inch steelies, currently have 15 inch SI's (205/50), had 16 inch black rotas (205/45), 17 inch racing hart c2 evolutions (205/40), and yes the heaviest and showiest of all rims, the REAL 18 inch racing hart c5 3 piece (215/35)... those rubbed like crazy by the way.

So yeah, let's say that you get pretty good quality tires with nice traction (as I've had with all those rims), the best size were definitely the 16's... if you have a good drop, they look big, you get great handling, and in the rain, you can just feel your tires gripping the road.

The 17's were cool too, but the extremely thin tire (the 18 inch rims were the worst of all) made the steering wheel shake when I'd be driving over bumpy conditions on the freeway. With the thin tire, you feel everything on the road.

I have the 15's right now because I absolutely love the SI rims (especially when they're spinning), and the difference between the 15's and 16's is not really noticeable. As long as you get a 205 width tire, you'll be fine.

In short, find the rims that you like and in the beginning, don't limit your options to size. Since you're a weekend racer, get a light 15 inch rim with the correct width tire, and you'll be fine.

(By the way, just in case you're wondering why I've had so many rims... I got my car in 2000, and my first rims were the 17's, but I curbed them and ending up selling them so I could get the 18's... someone tried to steal my car, so I had to downgrade my rims, so I sold them and got the 16's... I needed money so then I sold my 16's and went back to the steelies for 2 years... then I got the SI's when I did my hybrid 4 x 100 type R brake upgrade... going from 185 width on 14's to 205 width on 15's made a big difference on your feeling of stability on the road.)

i had 17's on my car for a while, they are heavier than stock, which slowed my car down.
i would say go with 16's or 15's. another bad thing about the 17s were very small tires and worrying about pot holes and the tires seemed to "follow the road".
