Default 10w30 full synthetic

is using 10W30 full synthetic motor oil bad for my '99 civic dx w/ a EX vtec cylinder head?? i notice when i use 5w30 full syn. it burns up within 1,500-2,000 miles and i used 10w30 full syn. before and it didn't burn as fast. one of my friends said that using 10w30 is bad and that my motor will lose performance. Is that true or i should be fine if i started to use 10w30??

No actually it will help, There is a reason why your burning oil, Weather its valve stem seals or piston rings oil is getting through some how to burn off If so your loosing compression in one or more of your cylinders which is what is going to give you your loss off power. 10/30 is a thicker oil than 5/30 which will help some and the additives in synthetic oils do help seal areas where oil is seeping through and burning off. Normally Synthetic oils are recommended to start being used in a new motor with very low miles to help prevent the problem your having. With the problem your having you may not need to spend so much money on a full synthetic oil anymore ex specially with it at almost $5 a quart. You might want to think about just switching to a blend, high mileage or even just thicker oil like a 10/40 or even a 20/50. I recently had a problem in my motor similar to yours. I had bad rings in my 3rd cylinder and until i got the chance to put a spare block in my car to fix my other I ran a 20/50 which helped allot with the burn off. Some say 20/50 is to thick of and oil to run in a motor that useses oil squirters since they say the oil can not pass through the squirters as easly. For me it did not really matter since it was rebuilding it anyways.

No problems...

I used 10w30 on my hatch

But since your burning oil you probably have a bad piston ring or seal

10w40 on my old 200.000km b16a motor, when i rebuit it there was nothing wrong inside it (just the brearings needed replace) so i guess it was real fine...never needed to add more than 600grams per 5.000km
