Default 1/4 times for my eg with d16z6

I ran the quarter on saturday for the first time in my life.
I have a 92 dx with a 94 si motor and I'm still using my stock dx tranny.
The only mods I have are a CAI and an exhaust.
I was running shitty 205/40/16 street tires at 32psi
heres what I ran

RT: 1.227
60ft:2.355
1/4mph: 87.21
1/4et: 15.734

RT: 1.090
60ft: 2.366
1/4mph: 83.64
1/4et: 15.974

RT: .521
60ft: 2.436
1/4mph: 83.96
1/4et: 15.919

RT: .766
60ft: 2.389
1/4mph: 85.55
1/4et: 15.879

I was wondering if a set of slicks would help me get into the low 15's?
And since I am still running the stock dx gearbox maybe with an SI gearbox and some slicks maybe I can run in the High 14's or very low 15's. I dont know but I'm sure it cant hurt anything.
I raced against a 99 si with I/H/E and pulleys and I beat the hell out of it, they only ran a 16.319, I'm glad I didn't waste 17grand on one of those They consistently ran low 16s all day with that SI. Another SI ran a 15.95 or something like that, they really arent all that fast.

get an Si tranny, and you'll see a HUGE difference. That's the one things SOHC engines lack, is the proper gearing. The z6 tranny is the closest US factory hydro tranny for the SOHC...if you want to go cable, or hydro to cable conversion...get a ZC tranny from a d16a6 engine..much closer

Those times seem fair. Get an SI tranny and you will feel a bigger difference. What are your plans for this car?

I'm plannin on a dc 4-2-1 ss header in the future and after my wife gets out of medical school I really want to get a Greddy turbo kit. I dont want to bother with nitrous because I wouldn't want to have to go through the hassle of filling the bottle all the time. Plus turbos are cool!!!! I might also look into the zex cam and a cam gear.

do nothing else till you get an ex si tranny..you will drop at LEAST 3 tenths maybe .5 wit hit alone. and D series trannys are cheap. don't spend more than 250..much cheaper than a header..and BTW don't buy the header if you are going turbo any way. that 300+ header is 300 bucks to the kit

you won't be needing the bigger HG..and DO NOT get the pullys (ask Mista Bone)

infact you won't even need the cam unless it is a turbo cam

You might want to consider doing a "mini-me" swap for some gains.

getting a shorter geared tranny is good, but only if it doesn't ruin your traction. Those launching platforms are so slippery and the launch is everything.

My b20 swapped teg was only getting mid 16's because my 60' times were almost 2.5sec. They say the ls tranny is the worst, but if i can launch at 3500 rpms and spin the first 3 gears to redline, then i can't imagine what a vtec tranny would do.

maybe some slicks...

let off the cas..feather the clutch..basically learn to drive..dont' use slicks untill you are pulling CONSISTANT 2.2s on crappy street tires and close to 2.0 on sticky street tires..

Not saying i have mastered this but what i am shooting for

Lay off the 99-00 si's. You had to do a swap to get in the same area as one with a shitty driver.

I've owned both as you can see by my sig and beleive me the '99 is in a different class. It's not all about performance.

And on another note. Nice times, like everyone else said swap the tranny add a few more goodies and you've got one quick car.

even when i launched it basically off idle i would spin most of first gear. I never tried feathering then, but could somone explain a good technique?

good times ...next time you run the car at the track detach the intake and run it open throtlle. it will knock off like 3 tenths of a second. work on your rt time. try keeping it under 1.0. either way good runs .

Holy sheepshit!

I replied to the same post in another section, but didn't see he was running the DX tranny. Those times are VERY good with a DX tranny! By going to a Si/EX tranny, expect to drop .3 seconds. Then add some 20x6x14 slicks and you'll be in the low 15's, about 15.15 would be my guess, maybe even better!

Thanks Mista Bone, I am gonna be tryin to get my hands on an si/ex tranny soon.
And maybe in the near future I will pick up some slicks. There was another guy out there with the same setup as me except he had the si tranny and he was running low 16's. I just think that he might have been an inexperienced driver though. But wait a minute so am I, this was the first time I have ever run the 1/4.
What would you guys recommend for a set of slicks?

for slicks and staying with your combo, 20x6x14 MT's on 14" steelies will be plenty.

I got a 1.97 60 ft 2 days ago launching at 7000+ rpm.

i know what you mean on the 6 gen SI. The fastest i have seen one go down the quarter is a 16.00. Elevation does play a role at my track even though it is only like 1500 feet, you can feel it. Again, don't use slicks as a bandaid to get good 60fts. Get REALLY good at launching on streets and then switch to slicks it will make you a better driver.

does anybody know of a really sticky and cheap street tire?
I would probably like some 13's or 14's for the strip.

God dammit, since I was on the strip on saturday its ****** addicting. All I can think about is how I can improve my 60 ft and what I could run if I had the si tranny. I'm probably going back there on friday night now to run again and try out a few different techniques.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys, Its nice to know that I did good on my first time out!!

stock clutch did just fine on spray. Only slipped on 3-4 powershift, but a used CenterForce DF cured that.

Powershifting on nitrous? Why yes I do!

Better the clutch to slip than tranny explode.

(ANTI 6 puk statement!!)

have you broken any axles Bone?? You're putting down some impressive times. The quickest I ran in my 94 Si, with intake, exhaust, and ported head, was a 15.7, full interior. My 60 foots were 2.4 at best, I was either spinning or hopping, depending on what side I was on. Our track is so inconsistant.

no broken axles yet. The key is letting the tires just slip enough so driveline is not SHOCKED as hard.

Now my old D15B7 NA on 8" slicks exploded 2 trannys when the diff gears failed. No slipping, just BAM! BOOM!

I have a Kaaz LSD, axles and 1-2 gears are the weak links now.
