02 Sensor 2000 Honda Civic

Good Afternoon,

Have a question about a 2000 Honda Civic Ex. I have changed out exhaust on 1.6 sohc, to have header test pipe instead of catalytic converter. My Problem is the bung in the header for the 02 sensor is at wrong angle, when you try to fit 02 sensor it hits CV axle. I have read that the secondary sensor in the Catalytic Converter is not needed in this case the test pipe.

My question is should it be Ok to extend the wires on the primary 02 sensor and move it back to that location on the test pipe, so it gets a reading and get rid of the secondary 02 sensor.

In case it helps, I am also in a state without emissions testing so this is not a particular concern, just want to still get good MPG as i driver over 100 miles daily to and from work.

Thank everyone in advance for your help.

You can and you'll have all kinds of check engine lights.

You should go back to stock and maintain the car to oem specs as much as possible. Please!

Re: 02 Sensor 2000 Honda Civic

I Understand there being a Check engine light. As far as returning to Normal this isn't an option as car is far from stock when i bought it, already has cold air intake, no PCV valve, and a couple other things down to the car. The Exhaust was already a mismatch of parts, some new some wore out. so wore out being replaced. I bought car for $500 running, so not going to through a whole lot more into it, Just want to see if it is viable to move the 02 Sensor back around 12 inches and remove the secondary. I have read other articles on here that say secondary will not effect anything, but unsure if relocation of Primary would cause any issues other than check engine light.

Thanks for your replies.

The primary O2 sensor in a stock 00 Civic EX is installed in exhaust pipe A, not the header.
