Okay i just went to drive an 00 si it has 85k, bone stock except two mtx 12s, warranty to 100k, paint is good (mr) a few dings here and there, interior is pretty good, the guy seemed very straight forward and he had a good reason for selling, going to the army, no accidents. Also he said that the timing belt was replaced at 60k as a scheduled maintenance by Honda, would this be true? Tell me what you think.

I'd shoot for around 8500 and settle around 9k

Honestly if YOU really want the car, then the price will be worth it.

Personally I'd never buy an EM1 Si. No offesne whatsoever to anyone who drives one, but they are not my cup of tea. Just as my hatch would not be everyone else's preference either.

http://www.kbb.com (Kelley Blue Book) lists the car at $9,440.00 in "good shape" and at $10,260.00 for "excellent" condition.

Their definition of "good" - "Good" condition means that the vehicle is free of any major defects. The paint, body and interior have only minor (if any) blemishes, and there are no major mechanical problems. In states where rust is a problem, this should be very minimal, and a deduction should be made to correct it. The tires match and have substantial tread wear left. A clean title history is assumed. A "good" vehicle will need some reconditioning to be sold at retail; however major reconditioning should be deducted from the value. Most recent model cars owned by consumers fall into this category.

And "excellent" - "Excellent" condition means that the vehicle looks great, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. It should pass a smog inspection. The engine compartment should be clean, with no fluid leaks. The paint is glossy and the body and interior are free of any wear or visible defects. There is no rust. The tires are the proper size and match and are new or nearly new. A clean title history is assumed. This is an exceptional vehicle.

From those it sounds as though the car is in "good" shape, and not excellent seeing as how it has dings.

I'd shoot for $9,000.00 if you must have an Si.

Cool thanks for the good advice i want an em1 mainly just to have a quiet smooth newer car my 95 rattles and vibrates so much and i would love to keep it because its truely my favorite model civic but i think its time to move on. Plus i dont have the time or experience to put a motor in my dd. I will try to talk him down some he seems kinda desperate to sell it as he is leaving in under a month.

My pal's bone stock drivetrain lowered Civic hatch (00 DX) was stolen from his work's parking lot recently.

All Hondas, including stock Accords, are huge targets for thieves.

A lot of dealers recommend the timing belt be done at 60K, but a lot of the newer Hondas actually require it be done at 105K. A lot of 1998-up Accords and Civics go until 105K.

All of the older Hondas go at 90K.

I've never done a timing belt at 60K at my shop even when a customer asked us to because again 90K is totoally safe and why waste the customer's money? They always appreciate it when we're honest with them, so we make lifelong customers that way.

60K is way precautionary. Does he have the records to prove it? If not I'd bet on doing the timing belt at 105K regardless, because I'd never take someone's word they had such servicing done.

That belts job runs like $500-$900 depending on who you take it to shopwise. Some del;aers want $900.00, while some independant shops like mine charge around $600.00 for all belts, waterpump, seals, and valvecover gasket with sparkplug tube seals because you have to remove the valvecover to do that timing belt.

IMO you should just take 2000 of that 10k your about to spend and get a b16a2 complete swap in to your 95 civic. it will be a better performer then that Si and it will cost you 1\5 of the money.

dont get me wrong i love the way Si's look but i cant see the justifcation on spending that much for a used car with 85k miles on it.

It costs that much to change a timing belt? damn! I didn't think it was that much work. Hell with an old D series you could buy a new engine for that much I'm going to have to figure out how to change that myself.

my local mechanic charged me $70 bucks to change my timing belt in my si. On top of that, he let me do it myself and guided me through it.

Because for a few grand more than the 10K asking price for the 99-00 Si coupe I have this instead:

Note the A/C, power steering, and cruise control too - who says you have to sacrifice creature comforts when owning a hybrid? I'm sure I don't need to mention how badly the hybrid hatches rape the EM1s in every performance category, do I?

Hey man you asked. I did not want to turn this into why the guy should do up a nice hybrid instead of getting an EM1, but you asked my opinion, so I told it.

This doesn't mean that HE should not buy the car - I certainly would not though.

And again I stand behind 90,000 miles for most every Honda timing belt, with newer models again only calling for 105K replacement.
