whichever one was more well taken care of. assuming both motors are using stock internals, the b16 is a stronger motor. with 8k, id look into a different route. if your asking which turbo car is for you...you should reconsider.

What are your power goals? If you have 8K, depending on your goals, neither motor could wind up being the route you ultimately take. 8K i'm thinking h22 or B20 for some serious power and torque.

b turbo. because of the power and better tuning capabilities because its dohc you can adjust the intake and exhaust cams, plus your already starting with alot more hp. k sereis would be nice too, I deffinetly wouldn't waste any moneyon a single cam.

Check out turbod16.org...
You can go either way, but IMO both are great motors. With one you will spend a crap load of more money. I would never use stock internals on a boosted motor... Honda makes them able to withstand so much more.. that is why they are reliable.. if you take it to the limit they become UN-reliable.. not to say that no one on here has never had a boosted stock motor that hasn't been reliable, but how many out there have blown them.
DO YOUR RESEARCH.. don't take someone elses advice just because.. do what you want to do.. research BOTH aspects and see what YOU want to do.
Personally I'd stick with the SOHC..
They are less expensive... and plentiful
can make up to 300HP pretty easily for WAY less cost.. and can make more.
If wanting more than 300-400 HP Id go with the other motor though.
With 8G... I could build a 400HP SOHC...

does the $8k include the car? or do you have a car already?
if you already have a EK, id do a Vitara build in the SOHC
Vitaras and FJ Rods w/ all bearings and gaskets - $600
Clutch - $300
LSD - $700
Intake Mani & TB - $400
Springs/Retainers/Valves/Cam - $1000
GOOD Turbo Kit - $2000
Software w/ Tune - $1000
Fuel stuff - $500
Still have - $1500 for labor whatever else you want to spend on

If you're just taking about a motor then for 8k you can do a lot. B16 turbo, H22 swap, even a k swap.
But including a car, 8k will probably just get you a stock Si. So in that case a d16 turbo would be the best way to go.

h it out! But honestly, save your tax money until you do your research and know for sure what you want and what your goals are. Is easy to spend that much money on something someone told you then in the end, its not what you wanted. So again, do YOUR RESEARCH and SAVE your money until you are definite!!!
