Default 00 Honda Civic LX - ECU Not Ready

Hey all,

Just bought a 2000 Honda Civic LX a few weeks ago, and have been trying to get it through emissions here in New York. Whenever I go, my OBD2 keeps coming back as not ready.

ORiginally I failed inspection due to my E-Brake cable snapped (which I fixed) and the OBDII not ready.

I have driven the car for over 500 miles, and I still can't get the ECU to clear as Ready for emission testing.

I have driven 55 from New York to Connecticut and back, yet still no luck.

What should I do?

I have a Honda Tech of 15 years saying that he hasn't seen this issue before.

Please note, The Back up Fuse (7.5a) did blow when a new radio was installed, about 500 miles ago. I just went out to double check the fuse, and all seems to be fine in the fuse.

Test whether voltage from the Back Up fuse reaches ECU pin B21.

How would I go about doing this? Still new to the whole electrical industry.

Do radio stations and clock time reset also?

No they don't, When I went to do my inspection, they told me that my battery might be on it's way out (Although they never tested it)

Highway driving frequently isn't enough to get the ECU to pass all readiness self-tests.

A Drive Cycle replicates the conditions of a person going out and driving his vehicle after it has been sitting overnight. First, he cold starts his engine and it warms up a bit while he is buckling his seat belt, selecting the radio station or CD he wants and adjusting the volume, and letting the windows defrost a little. The car is then driven through stop and go scenarios through city streets at speeds of 25 to 35 mph. Then, the car enters the freeway and accelerates briskly at half throttle or more to match the speed of the other drivers as the they enter the flow of the freeway traffic. Then the vehicle is driven at a steady, conservative speed of between 55 and 60 mph for at least four to five miles.

After this, the vehicle pulls off the freeway and is driven a bit more in city driving conditions before pulling into a parking place where the engine idles for 20 to 30 seconds before being turned off. On many vehicles, one of these Drive Cycles is sufficient enough to set all or most of the Readiness Monitors. Other vehicles require that this entire process be repeated on two or more successive days.
Or Another resource for you.

Is the CEL on? Does it work?

No CEL, The last time the car was registered was in 2011 and the owner of the car past away and left it in his garage, bought the car for 400 bucks at 50k miles.

My Honda Tech told me that I wasn't driving the cart the correct way for the ECU to come on, He is going to drive the car tomorrow to his shop which is about 1 hour 45 minutes away and all high way and told me that he'l ll get the car ready.

Where I orignally got the car tested, they told me that a bad/old battery might be the problem. Although I never decided to change out my battery on it. As I said the car wasn't registered since 2011, and the sticker on the battery says 2013 on it, So I'm not really sure what's up with the battery and I know I never changed it. Could it be the battery being just old?

So glad I put the effort into my last post. If you're just going to go through your "Honda Tech", why did you come here in the first place?

I have tried a drive cycle already, although I haven't had any luck yet.

I'm going through my "Honda Tech" because it is equally a free service that I am relieving through the site, although numerous minds will better help me get through the situation. It's not only fixing the problem, although it is learning about the problem and the possibilities that might fix it.

A simple google search was able to bring up about 100 Drive cycle websites, so I'm generally looking for other ideas that I haven't seen, like Ron has provided. Thanks, though.

Why ignore any post that tries to help you? Especially when you have little understanding of how your car works.

I didn't purposely ignore your post, what would you like for me to reply to your post? I acknowledged it, and continued to read.

No idea why you're getting upset, lol.

You seem pretty upset. It is what it is, I'll just move on.

Any good troubleshooting tips for the ECU?

You seem exceptionally lost. Am I on target?

Any good troubleshooting tips for the ECU?
Start here. Unplug the primary O2 sensor. Drive car for 5 minutes or so.

Does the CEL turn on and stay on? If so, when you turn the car off for 5 minutes, plug the sensor back in, and turn the key to ON(II), does the CEL still stay on steady?
