00 D16Y8 into 97 Civic EX - What's needed for this swap?
So I have done some research And got a few answers but I need a crystal clear answer! I spun a rod bearing on my 1997 d16y8 the head seems to be in good condition. I found someone with a 2000 d16y8 who just did a swap so I'm picking this motor up for a steal. He's selling me the longblock. From what I've seen the engine harness is different and ecu and distributor. My question is WHAT exactly will I need to do to my harness for this new d16y8 to run? New ecu? OR is it not a bad idea to just take the head off the 2000 y8 and slap it some my 97 y8? What am I in for doing this and is this an easy thing to do?

99-00 y8's have air injection in the head but I don't really see that being a problem if you use your current harness, ecu, and distributor. If it does turn out to be a problem then you'll have to also use your cyl. head

I never have but I seem to remember someone on here tapping the holes and using allen head setscrews to seal them off and using 96-98 gasket. I'd prob just use the head and intake manifold from his old one. You might could leave the head and intake on the motor and be fine, I don't know but I also don't see it being a problem. If his head is in good shape I'd prob. just swap them for good measure.

Heads have same part number, I believe the air injection is just in the intake manifold not the head. Just get the intake manifold gasket for your car not the 99-00 head.

You could shim and port your oil pump the Y8 are notorius for spinning rod bearings... They flow less oil then the Z6's do just run your old head and replace the head gasket.

The pump does flow a little worse than the Z6, but the real cause of spun bearings is the lack of oiling holes on the Y7/Y8 cranks, they have 1 oiling hole per journal vs 2 for the Z6.

Yeah the air injection is on the 00 intake mani but not the head. I just got the long block and when I was unplugging all the the hoses and plugs I saw that on the 00, by where the thermostat theirs a black plastic piece that's not on my 97. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'll post a pic after work.

that goes into your intake...there the exact same motor just one is a obd2a the other obd2b...u can use your old distributor and alternator on the long block as well as your old harness
