00 Civic SI/LS-Vtec swap - How difficult is ODB2 tuning?
Hey guys, I had a quick question I'm hoping someone could answer.
So I have a 2000 SI, looking to swap in an LS/Vtec. I have read a few guides and extensive tuning is recommended. My buddy suggests that I convert it to ODB1 or tuners won't be able to tune correctly without mods.
My question is, how difficult is it to tune on ODB2? Would something like hondata be required?

only tuning u can do n/a is with a piggyback or VAFC tricking the map sensor to add and subtract fuel per rpm. and control vtec engagement. i dont recomend boosting on these maybe the AVCR for boosting.

I don't really call VAFC or any such archaic device tuning. You can drop about a grand on an AEM EMS to replace your stock ECU.

am i wrong or is the aem ems what they call a piggyback system?
i thought that was the typical way you can get any type of mapping on the motor

I read somewhere that it replaces the factory ECU. I thought it was a piggyback as well but maybe I'm just misunderstanding. In any case it will still set you back about a grand.

yeah, i'm guessing it does replace the factory ecu, at least the EMS does,
there are fuel/ignition control units apparently that can piggyback on the factory ecu it seems

There used to be a few guys back in the day that could chip OBD2 ECUs but I'm not aware of anyone doing it now (it was extremely rare even then)

I remember reading about that when I was researching my turbo build a few years ago but they were long gone even then.
