Default << 00 Civic fog light problem - only driver side is working >>

The car's a 00 Civic Si, and I have depo fogs on it. The fog lights stopped working a few months ago. First one side quit working, then the other side gave out as well. I figured it was just the bulbs, so I picked up some new H3's and installed them today. (btw, it's a pain in the *** how to replace them on these fogs since the whole foglight housing has to be taken apart from behind the bumper.)

Anyways, I replaced the bulbs, and only the drivers side is working. The passenger side bulb does NOT light up. Both sides DID previously work prior to all this.

I checked all of the wiring and everything seems to be fine. Pulled off the loom throughout and inspected all of the connections, everything is intact. Check the relay/fuse as well and it's still good.

I'm out of ideas and wanna get them working ASAP. Anyone have any ideas? Any info appreciated.

Thanks

Theres a little wire inside the housing thats a ground. I had this same problem when i installed my H3 bulbs, double check the ground inside the housing.

Yup I checked the grounds, and I had to remove the ground inside the passenger side housing (the one that doesn't work) to remove the bulb, but I screwed it back into the housing so I don't think it's that.

Any other ideas?

I'd grab a multimeter and make sure you've got your battery voltage going to the foglights, then check for proper ground. Did you touch the bulbs when you put them in? If you touched them with your hands it's possible they burnt out as soon as you tried to turn them on. How are they wired in?

Happened on my DEPO fog lights too. I never could get it to finally be fixed. Sometimes they would work, sometimes they didn't.

I upgraded to Esuse and never had a problem. Upgraded to OE when the passenger Esuse light cracked.

What do you mean did I touch them? The actual bulb itself?

I'll try to find a multimeter tomorrow to see if it's getting power and then I'll report back. Thanks guys

The glass on the bulb should not be touched because oil from your hands can heat up on the surface of the glass and cause the bulb to blow.

It's not a right away type of thing though. That would not be the problem here.

It depends on how much crap was on your hands really. If you just get the usual oil from your hands on it it's not bad but if you've been touching other stuff (tranny fluid, oil, etc.) and smeared some of that on them they'll burn out quickly. Also, sometimes you just plain get a bad bulb from the factory.

Just listen to NOFX, he's a straight up gangsta badass. :D

That's not the issue here. I know touching the bulbs will eventually burn them out due to the oils on your skin. I did not touch the bulbs, and I tried 2 different bulbs so we can eliminate that..

It's really no big deal. "He" is just a filler. It's a generic term to refer to "that person".

Didn't have time to check it out today. Worked all day and just got home. I'll update when I have time to mess with it.

And I'm being blunt about it. I hear stuff like that often when people figure out I'm a girl.

You must really like to work on cars I take it? I'm surprised. It's rare to find a girl that's this involved in cars. You'll run into the occasional one that can change spark plugs or oil, but one that knows as much as you is rare. Are you a female robot or something? lol

i had the same problem on my wifes 2001 sedan. only my driver side was working for awhile. i figured it was the bulb, but changing them didn't solve the problem. then i got my trusty multimeter and took voltage at the bulb plug and got less than 3 volts. then i took the positive from the plug and ground at the battery. lo and behold i got 12 volts. so i just re wired the ground for the passenger fog light and everything works now.

hope this helps.

Like some one montion before use a meter or a test light and make sure you are getting power to it. Some times a non proper ground can cause a problem and if you touched a buld you can clean them with alchol....hope you solve your problem!
