Hey all. I have my a 00 civic ex 5 spd(d16y8) and my problem is when I used the a/c on Sunday it was fine but the very next day(this past Monday) I'm leaving my hosue and go to turn the ac on and it made this growling/grinding kinda of sound so I stopped it and went to inpect it, I observed as my wife pushed the ac button, I could see the clutch engaging but I'm at loss from thier, any one know a solution?

Bearings gone/going bad? Mine are making a squealing sound though. Clutch bearing and tensioner.

Yeah, sounds like you need to replace the clutch/bearing of the compressor. I've heard that this can be done without disconnecting the compressor A/C lines.

well heres the thing, when i start my car and drive it where ever, it's nice and quite like how it should be but when i go to turn on the a/c, thats when its making the grinding/howling sound........could it be that their is no refregerent in the system?

bump it up, would it be the clutch? if so, any how to's to change it on the vehicle?

It's winter, who needs A/C? Go get a clutch at the junkyard or look up the part on a part's site and it will show how it goes together.

so thats all i need than is just the clutch?

and sounds like either the clutch or the compressor has taken a **** on you.

if you are unable to determine this just by listening under the hood, you should take it to a pro. especially being that if the compressor's internals have failed.. it may require realizing that other components may need replacement before installing and running new compressor.

and, as always, any work done to the a/c system should be performed by a trained pro with the proper equipment. (gotta think of the ozone man) ...not to mention an improperly charged system could either damage itself or fail and **** you up.

so i just changed the clutch but now it dosent even come cold and it seems when i turn the ac on, its like the whole pulley freezes because i could smell something burning and when i opened my hood, it was smoking by the belt......i should jus replace the compressor than huh? and myabe the drier and txv, anyone know where i can get it cheap?
