Got a lot of work done today on the Si-R. I can officially call it a rolling chassis now that the radiator support and rear subframe are welded on. I can't thank Terry enough for helping out.

I also started sanding the engine bay.. It's gonna take a while.





Not finished cleaning it all up, but it's at least welded on and sealed to not rust..

No, I'm not shaving the bay. I just needed to fix the pillars where the previous owner had slammed the sol.

You're gonna need some deadblow mallets. And a lot of tigerbalm.

Also, if you have a parts car, it might be easier to cut out patches for the floor pan and weld it into the good car.

following the honda site parts diagram you should be able to replace the entire floor pan in one go.

Is this what you would do to fix a rusted out spare tire well? Just cut out the bottom of a good car and weld it into the old one? Sorry to Hijack thread but I have some rust inside my trunk that I've been thinking of ways to combat.

You need go remove the rusted part completely, get rid of any leftover rust, weld on the new part.

To ensure a clean install, and if time allows, YES I would go that route. Yeah it will be hidden but if i went the extra mile for a ride of mine I might as well keep going.

It is dependent on how bad it is. If it's just surface rust without material degradation, just wirewheel, primer and paint. If it's pitted and cancerous, cut it out and patch it up.

Because this floorpan is all dented, the metal is stretched. Banging it back into shape is sometimes more work and won't be 'just right' without cutting out material and welding it to 'shrink' it. Plus the ribs.in the floor are all messed up, and those provide structural rigidity, so it's better to try to keep to the original shapes.

Small update.. Apparently this is the cool thing to do with your wiring harness..




Literally every harness from the dash forward was cut. I'm assuming it was for a "wire-tuck" at some previous point in the del sol's life, but I'm not for that.

It took a little time and money, but I sourced out a RHD Del Sol under-dash harness and bay harness. I was worried this was going to be one of the tougher finds, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger once I found it.






All plugs and looms are still there!

clean it up and if there are any electric tape breaking apart remove all of it and put on fresh tape. If you have time order some thermo tape too, tesa, on amazon and insure that the adhesive side still is....adhesive. If not request a replacement.

I definitely have time. I'm unfamiliar with tesa tape. What are the benefits? You recommend removing all electrical tape off the looms and replacing it with this? Or remove the loom completely?

I apologize for all the Photobucket Hosting Watermark images early on in this thread. I'm working on getting them all replaced with the original. Should be done by this weekend.

I would replace the old worn out electric tape with new electric tape and use the Tesa tape over areas that get alot of heat,

Last month was a super busy one for me outside of the restoration.. Happy to have some small progress.

It's starting to look like a whole car again.
