[How to] Engine install on a 92-95 civic 5 speed
This is for the diy'ers who dont want to take it to a mechanic and save some $$. This project takes about 8 hrs. by yourself and 6 or so with two friends. More time if your a newbie of course
The first thing is to gather all the parts and tools needed. This includes: ratchets, wrenches, and sockets mostly sizes 10-19,small mallot, jack, jack stands, pliers, motor oil, antifreeze, distilled water, oil filter, spark plugs and hoist.
Before you start doing this make sure your engine is not hot. Disconnect battery terminals. Disconnect the fat starter cable that runs to your starter and disconnect the wire that runs to the fuse box as well. Disconnect the 5 or so harness plugs that are in the engine bay. Disconnect gasoline lines, vacuum lines, clutch line, and throttle cable.
Put your parking brake on and loosen your front lug nuts. Jack the car up and put the jack stands right before the front tires. Remove the tires and put them under the car for extra security . Take the top off the radiator and engine and prepare to drain fluids. Butterly is underneath the radiator and drainage bolt is under the oil pan, most are size 17 . To remove the tranny oil get a 3/8 in. ratchet no socket needed, and turn.
With pliers, remove the pins underneath the splidles and remove nut with size 17. This is the tricky part. Hit the lower control arm with the mallot so that it loosens from the splindle, sometimes you need to jack it up so that the spring is compressed, well most of the time . Then with big screw driver push the axles out of the transmission.
Remove the radiator bracket, 1 bolt only so dont worry . Remove the radiator with hoses in tact, so remove the clamps from the thermostat housing and head. Remove the linkage from underneath the shifter and transmission with sizes 10 and 12.
Remove the seven bolts or so from the 2 front mounts(torque and ac) with sizes 14 and 17, and the rear one with size 17 as well. Disconnect the headers from cat with size 12 I believe. With hoist tighten engine down good( I use a empty spot on the back of the head next to the timing belt and a bracket in the tranny). The engine is coming out only with the rear mount. Finally, lift the engine out and put in safe place.
Remove the starter, tranny, rear mount, clutch, and wiring harness and install in new engine. This is a good time to check wear in the clutch to see if it needs replacing. Torque everything down good or just tighten it . Loosen the oil filter as its a PITA when the engine is in. Hoist that sucker and put it in its place . I do the rear mount first the the motor and tranny then the other 4.
Put the axles into tranny, tighten spindle nut, and put the pin back in. Connect the harness plugs and other wires back in its place. Connect the gasoline lines, vacuum lines, and throttle cable. Connect the shift linkage from underneath the shifter and tranny. Bolt the headers to the cat converter and tighten good . Place radiator in its place and clamp that sucker . Dont forget to bolt the slave cylinder back in its place and bleed it of course once your done .
Install new spark plugs, oil filter and fluids to the engine and transmission. Best thing is to remove the speed sensor and put tranny oil through there . Before you start the car make sure that everything is connected and in its proper place . Once you start it, let it run for a while so it burns the oil a little and add some antifreeze/water if needed. Finally go ahead and take your car for a test drive

Re: (2FAST4U831)
Umm when your converting from an Auto to a Manual don't you need to change the.. um.. SHIFT STICK???!?
No mention of that in this article, what exactly are we doing, changing a manual for another manual?
