Are you aware of what the definition of redundant is?
If I were to do this, I would not put a bag on the outside. But if you want to follow this persons directions, go ahead and do it. It won't hinder you in any significant or noticable way.

Has anyone here actually worked at a tint shop before?
If you can get the actual film off in one piece, great. The best way to go about removing the "glue" in my case is with Johnson's baby shampoo and a sharp razor blade. This is how a lot of tint shops I've seen removed tint, save for the back window. I've used this method on a few cars and it works excellent. Basically you need to just take the shampoo, wet the window down a little bit, smear the shampoo on, then start running your razor blade down the glass. Make sure that you are not digging into the glass, but still going at a slight angle against it.
As far as taking it off the rear without messing up the defrost lines it can be really difficult. Sometimes you will get lucky and you can pull the film off then razor blade around the lines. Other times pulling the film off will take the lines off with it. There is a repair kit for the lines available at most auto parts stores if you do mess them up though.

i did the same method but i pulled the tint off first then applied windex mixed with alcohol and dish soap directly on the glue and let the bag sit there for a while. used #0000 steel wool and wiped it all off.

yes its possible to use a heat gun but make sure you move it around, you could then use the steel wool to help clean up the glue residue, i've found that it helps quite a bit considering the rear windshield is mostly contoured

haha, i had an easier approach, grabbing four friends (since i have four door civic) and give them razor blades along with goo gone. came out perfect, expect for tight spaces such as the rear window but majority of the glue was gone.

Re: [DIY] Removing Car Window Tint
not to sound like a dick on and old thread but tint goes on and comes off with ...guess what......WATER!!! GOOD OL' H2O. its a water soluble glue! thats why it goes on with a spray bottle, works in reverse as well. no need to use baby shampoo or goo gone just a spray bottle of warm water!! try it and youll be amazed....
