Default *SOHC* retard my timing and i think it pulls a little bit better on the highend!

I have a d15b vtec and by advancing my timing i think i have gained better throttle response and some little power on the low end. But when I retard my timing...my idle is kinda off and my car feels kinda sluggish flooring it on 1-3k rpms. But I believe I have feel a little bit more of a highend power on the 2 degrees retard. What do you guys think is best for me? Is there actually proof of this that advance is better than retard? (or the other way around)

2 degrees advance
or
2 degrees retard

This is on a d15b vtec cx w/ i/h/e. I just want the best out of my engine even if ill have to sacrafice crappy gas for 1-2 more hp!

No ****.

Retarding - makes more power up high
Advancing - makes more power down low

1/2 tooth advanced(red) vs 1/2 tooth retarded(blue)

Sure you gain 7peak WHP but you're losing 15 on the low end...

that would be TDC= 0* BTDC....you don't wanna be retarded at all, well, over 0 that is.

I have noticed that with lower octane, 87 or so, withy the p28 and advanced or even stock ignition timing, that on the top end the engine will sort of "fight" against itself. In a way detonating, but not quite.

Better yet. I have an aem cam gear on my sohc pos d16. You should concentrate more on making low end power. Your top end will still be there as long as you don't go overboard. Too much topend cam timing and you take away from the bottom end. I found a happy medium right now with a 3 degree advance. I have more low end to mid range power and it still pulls like it always has to redline. Just a thought.
