*REWARD* vtec in b18c1, knock sensor question
hey i wired my friends vtec today and it doesnt want to engage. i wired the a4 to vtec solenoid, d6 to vtec pressure switch, and the other wire on the vtec pressure wire to the chassis. i even tried to test vtec manual with a button, vtec still doesnt want to kick in. i performed a test light and the wires were in the right place and activated. i didnt hook up the knock sensor to d3 cause i thought it wasnt necessary to wire it becuase he has a p28 with a disabled knock sensor. is this why vtec isnt kick in? he has a bone stock b18c1 with a skunk2 intake manifold.
i even tried the use my cousins p28 (still no luck)
both p28's are chipped for DOHC
there is no CEL turning on (jsut wanted to point this out)
your reward is a for helping
EDIT: i has a brand new screen

Check to see if your vtec solenoid is still good. You can do that with the engine off by touching the wire that leads to a4 to a 12v. You should here it click. IF you already did that then disregard my comment.

check your ground and engine oil at proper level and temp... with a p28 your vtec would come on around 5500 rpm. if your ecu prgram got knock disable then you don't have to wire that knock sensor. and if you do wire the knock sensor yoru need to use a shielded wire for the knock sensor.

Re: (stock93cx)
vtec operates off of
a)engine temp
b)oil pressure
c)rpm
d)speed
All I can think of is VSS(but you said no check engine lights), bad solenoid, bad oil pressure, or your ecu is not working correctly.

check and did it all
everything is factory new and ecu is working fine cause i tried it in my friends car and it engaged, i also tried it with his p28 and no vtec. so i guessing its the wires, but i pluged it in the right spot. damn this is pissing me off

you need a oil pressure gauge
recheck the wiring first. I had the pressure sensor pin loose in the ecu plug and that was causing a similar problem....It's always the stupid little ****.
Do your wires have any cuts or rips in them?

Hook up the a multimeter to the ECU vtec out.
Drive around and rev to rpm where vtec engages.
See if tester register any voltage. (Trying to isolate if ECU wont engage vtec OR the new wire you installed is not connected properly).
if no voltage then check oil presuse
If there is voltage then check for continuity of vtec wire from ECU to solenoid.

no the wires seem to be perfect, i did a test light on all of them and they all seem to be working. there was no indication of lost connections

i did that, there was no signs of voltage change. what should i do now?

Re: (stock93cx)
probably stupid but is the speedo registering the car is moving. if not the car isnt knowing that the car is moving and wont engage vtec. this happened to my friends car he never hooked up the speedo sensor and we couldnt figure out why it wasnt turning over.
