alright, let me explain what happened leading to this noise that just started....while merging onto the highway i was doing between 65-70mph and i went to shift into fourth from third..hit a pothole, the shifter moved a bit and i ended up shifting into second gear...for a split second the car went way into the red, damn near stopped me dead in my tracks, and the car dipped...but like i said for a split second that happened and i immediately shifted into neutral than to fourth.

about 10 minutes later i was riding in second, low RPMs cause of traffic and when the traffic finally dispersed i stepped on it..still in second and just as i was hitting 5000 RPMs i started to hear a noise that sounded like quick bursts of compressed air were shooting out of something...so i pulled over to see if there happened to be any obvious vacuum hose leaks or something that may have just been jarred loose but i couldn't come up with anything from taking a quick glance at things being on the side of the highway.

so now when i start hitting high RPMs like 5k and up it sounds like air is shooting out from somewhere...i really hope its not my head gasket, maybe an exhaust gasket???
maybe something to do with valves.

if anyone has had a similar problem, please let me know or if anyone is a mechanic and knows what it is..same, please let me know

You need to do a compression and leakdown test man. If you went from redline in 3rd to 2nd, you have most likely bent some valves.

How is the car idling?
