**B16 or GSR cams??**
hi, today i was able to get my hands on a pair of GSR cams. i have a jdm b16 its a sirII motor to be exact. i was told that if i used GSR cams i would feel a difference. after i swaped them in i honestly felt nothing. Its been rainging here on and off so i really cant floor it and feel the V-TECH kick in. would it help me out or should i just stay with my b16 cams??? thanx...

your v-tech is not going to kick in your car, you got to plug it up at home and let it charge.lol
your not going to fell the difference in the gsr cams. they're probably the same since the B16A (SIR2) has head work done (versus the usdn b16) to put out 170hp, the same as a usdm gsr.

They make more power cause of less strict emissions
and please don't ever compare B16 anything to GSR

You should have known that the gsr cams give you like 0.8 hp before you did all that work. This is when SEARCHING helps you.
obd1 b16a = 170hp
obd1 b18c1= 180hp
obd1 b16a = 170hp
obd1 b18c1= 180hp

if u had a regular B16 and swapped GSR cams in u'd feel a difference..but the B16 SIRII has more aggressive cams then the USDM B16a2..tho the GSR cams are still MORE aggressive, but the difference is very very small...
and as everybody's told u, v-tech's a phone company, vtec is what is in ur honda/acura

i stand corrected, i always thought it had something to do with the head. as far as comparing the 2. don't hate the b16 it's not a bad motor, everyone seems to hate it, when i don't know why. i have a stock jdm b16a and i've been able to stay if not pass stock gsr's, so don't have a titty attack!

I've heard many times that the first gen are different. Now speaking 92+ gsr cams are an upgrade (more lift, duration, etc) compared to the b16s but by like 1% so basically it isn't worth the time/money.

yea you're right 92+ b16aX and 94+ b18c1s, the 92+ b16 cams should be the same, and if they are not, then who cares, how much are you going to push? 1hp + you know what I mean? probably not tho... I doubt there are differences.

You mean displacement or are you talking about the cams still?

gsr cams are the way to go...best upgrade i've done....noticeable midrange and top end power....still have no torque below 4500 rpm but the car pulls alot stronger once vtack engages....cams are all a b16 motor needs in order to compete with the gsr....i'd put money on a 2000si with basic bolt ons and gsr i-e cam up against a gsr integra with basic bolt ons any day....

yea, do the same to a GSR & it would be GSR > B16. Take the B16 Tranny & put it on a GSR & it would be GSR > B16 all day long. Now as far as the head, a B16 head with work done is better than the GSR. But stock the GSR head > B16. It all depends..

Re: (HatchSpeeD)
well i was just trying to prove my point that gsr cams in a b16 helps quite a bit....i remember before i put mine in, i could only beat certain gsr's like 96-01's....but after i put them in, i pulled 96-01's like 3-4 cars and 94-95 by like 1-2 cars....and i use to barely loose to 94-95 gsr's....but i guess it would depend on how you drive and the condition of your motor....but the truth, stock for stock, i agree gsr>b16....

I mean cam gears, pistons and the rods, etc. Everyone is telling me that b16 is the way to go cause it has more potential than if you added the same upgrades to a gsr.

Re: (Bondeedo)
I remember seeing a couple of dyno charts on a b16aX with stock cams vs GSR cams a while back when I was looking for a set of GSR cams, and apparently the GSR cams actually lost hte b16 a few horses through the power range.
But I think it's a fluke, the GSR cams are slightly more aggressive than USDM b16a cams...
We'll see when I get around to putting my set in.

well today it stopped raining and I adjusted the lifters they were a lil tighter then the b16 cams. to be honest it isn't like "omg" of a difference but when the V-TECH comes on it dose feel a lil stronger. only main difference I noticed while adjusting the lifters was that the exhaust cam was much tighter. so yea it is a lil bit bigger but not that much! I wouldn't recommend going out of your way and buying them though! thank god I got them for free.

Re: (xtreme412)
gsr cams are designed to work with a gsr intake manifold. designed to have vtec engage at 4400 rpm with the secondary butterflies still closed. IMO you should notice a loss if anything.

Re: (HatchSpeeD)
i'd recomend them over i-h-e....if your looking for a bit more power go with the gsr cams.....all i kno is i-h-e dont help out as much as the gsr cams....like i said, it dont matter how much a car can dyno....all that matter is how it performs....put a b16 with gsr cams up against a stock b16 and the one with the cams will pull no matter what...when my em1 civic was stock, i could beat other em1's with i-h-e, but i put the cams on and all i have to say is i better miss 2nd and 3rd gear in order for a stock em1 to pull me or even a gsr integra....
