***k20vs k24vs frankestein build?***
yes i am noob to this.
please educate me!
ive read recent post but it still doesnt tell me what i need to know..
i want to put a k series if its worth it in an EK.
time and price are not a big deal but im not made of money i have enough to do a build but i dont want boost!
and i dont want a all mototr thats only track driven i want an all around good motor
with good numbers, some what close across the board
but i dont mind if there a little diffrent . i know your reading going this post belongs somewhere else but im posting it here becasue its going into an ek and the issues ive seen have been putting a k series into something newer than an ek so that's why its in here...
now on to the ?'s
i have seen posts with deck match up problems
1.now if i go tsx bottom end what goes on top? which is best i saw the post about the element head but all the pictures were not available anymore,.
2.is it even worth the time for the power "frankenstein" or should i just buy a k24 and do all motor,.
now i know i havent been on in along time but when i have gone to honda tech meets in Atlanta ga, ive done what ever moderators told me to like len asking me to block traffic " your car is not that nice on the outside"with my car so in a sense i have contributed
but please any help would be great
i give to the scene when i can. i am haveing acura and honda do the build which ever i chose to go with,.
so please help me to make a good decision,.
thank you in advance

1.tsx block id put a rsx types head on it (k20a2)
2.not sure how big of an effect the .4 liters has, you may be able to peice it togher for less, and go with the k24, im not sure if they are cheeper or more then the k20.
if you have the money and the time. id go k series....
is it worth it? um no, but its your car do what you want with it and have fun!. if i had the money i would do it in a heart beat

Re: ***k20vs k24vs frankestein build?***
If you want tsx (which is probably the best k24 out there) find a k24a2. It is more expensive then the element or crv k24 blocks and it is more powerful. There are other problems with the other k24s out of the crv or elements. You may have to do some piston swapping for the non tsx motors. This is why the tsx motors are more expensive then the crv or the element. The k24a2 has more torque than a k20a2 and the jdm k20a. Youll get low end torque follow by high end power if you decide to swap over a k20a2 head. You can also swap in a k20a2 transmission. Overall its a fast daily driven motor with alot of torque. OR you can start off with a k20a2 complete and then when your tired of it, find a tsx bottom block and just swap it out.

Idk what kind of power K24/K20 Franks make. But if you dont have alot of money i would do B20VTEC. they make nice All motor power. Low end TQ with High end HP. And they are pretty cheap for the power they make.

1. Exactly what Raidcaipo said. Use a TSX block with either a K20a/2 head. If you search the comparison of the K24's you will find out the K24a2 has the most penitential for a good build.
2. If you have the time and K series experience do the Frank build, you can't go wrong with that.
Here are just some specs to help you out
K20A2
Acura RSX-S
2.0 L DOHC
8200 RPM Redline
200 hp / 142 lb - ft tq
11:1 compression
K20A
Honda Integra Type R
2.0 L DOHC
8400 RPM Redline
220 hp / 150 lb - ft tq
11.5:1 compression
K24A2
Acura TSX
2.4 L DOHC
7100 RPM Redline
200 hp / 166 lb - ft tq
10.5:1 compression
The K20a2 and K24a2 makes the same HP. The JDM K20A makes about 20 more HP than both.
The K24a2 makes about 24 more torque than the K20a2 and 16 more torque than the JDM K20a.
So basically if you do a Frank build. You will get the Torque of the K24A2 and the head flow of the K20A/2.
Personally I like the K24a2 by itself with a good K-Pro setup.

I'd get a K24a2 long block with a Y2M3 (Type R) tranny, Kpro, good header, 3" exhaust, RBC or RRC manifold, and you'll be good to go. I personally like the TSX motors myself as well.

hmm, i am kind of in your shoes too,as i am going with a k24 swap myself (into an rsx i already have). I have done my fair share of research too, i will give a sum up of that......
The K24A2 tsx swap is nice as it makes a couple hundred hp, and you won't have to mess around with it internally....and of course they cost more
A lot of people do go the cheaper route (much cheaper initially) and buy the accord, element or crv engines. Of these, the k24a4 accord engine is the one that needs its pistons swapped out if running a k20a2/k20z1 (rsx-s head) or K20Z3 (06+ civic Si) head on it. It is not a bad option though because you are able to choose the compression you are after, use new rings while you are at it, plus any other gasket and other upgrades can be done at the same time.
Here is where i am at right now. I picked up some used parts over the last 12 months, and next summer i will start the tear down. I bought used:
- 2004 Accord K24A4 long block (100k miles on it) $200
- 2004 RSX-S K20A2 complete long block (spun bearing, but only 15K original on it) $600
- 2008 Civic Si K20Z3 complete engine/6sp lsd tranny (20K original) This swap came from a crashed car that even caught fire, and some of the sensors on top has started to melt a bit, but everything else was good $1400
I plan to used to bets of what i have, then sell off what i don't or keep for a future project.
If doing a frank k24, using some 11.5:1 to 12:1 compression pistons, some good stage II cams with better valve springs, stronger clutch and a Kpro setup, it is not hard to make 260-280hp and 200-220 ft lbs tq from what i have seen
