I had a tanabe G power medalion on my eclipse. I bought it 7 yrs ago and recently sold it. When we pulled it off everything was fine. No corrosion on the muffler or the piping or anything like that. Did you buy that new? That doesnt even look like ceramic piping anymore.

Where do you live? That has a very "midwest" look to it. I just wonder how typical that result is, five years is not exactly a really short amount of time but I guess you would hope it to last longer than that.
BTW, is it possible that the piping was rubbing on the undersurface of the car? If so, that may have caused it to scrape the ceramic coating and in turn leave it more vulnerable to rust.

hmmm, so I wonder if this type of thing is typical of just this particular exhaust? Anyone else had their aftermarket catbacks for 5 years or more? I am really curious now as to the life of the various ceramic coated/aluminized exhaust systems that make up most of the market.

did yours sound like that?</TD></TR></TABLE> Yes that's why i did the check and there it was at first it was hard to locate it i though it was a loose bolt and leakage from that but then everything seems secure i had to change the brakes too so i did that and boom there it was.

True, and if my budget permits I will clearly opt for a full SS. Still, I wanted to know how long they typically last, like I said, most exhaust systems on the market seem to be comprised of aluminized or ceramic coated piping. Just hoping someone else will throw in their 2 cents on long term exhaust use.

You live in the East coast, what do you expect...?
Mild steel will rust, which is why a good muffler shop always recommends a good coating on the pipes before installation, and periodically afterwards. Maybe in the future you'll take some of this into consideration.
