**** Civic EX w/ B16A2 Swap ??? ****
Hello I have question Im currently looking to buy a vehicle and was hoping to get some opinions and suggestions. The description shows as follows:
1997 CIVIC, 98k mi, 67k miles on motor, air bag, ac, ps, cc, tilt, pwr windows, am/fm, pdl, pwr mirrors, sunroof, EX Chassis, white w grey interior. B16A2 Engine and tranny swap, Skunk2 Stage 2 cams, Upgraded Springs and Retainers stock valves, modded suspension, clutch, exhaust, chipped P28 ecu, MSD Ignition, Fields Fuel/Vtec Controller.$6,200
From what the seller told me the block seems to be stock and all the work that has been done has been on the head. MY question basically is weather or not this is a good setup or not? Is it reliable? Stage2 cams able to make power with no block work? Is there nething else required to run Stage 2 cams besides retainers and springs? Also is $6,200 a good price?

I would say $6K, because I bought my 97 with 120K on the ticker for $4250. The swap would take me to $6K alone. So the $6200 is fair but I would try for $6K

yea the motor sounds good...its look like it was a clean swap.
but yea try to get it atleast under 6200. about 5600-5800 sounds ok..plus the shell looks good

on kbb.com, a good condition vehicle with that many miles is $5300 through private party. Personally if you think the motor was swapped over well and it is C.A.R.B. legal ( which it probably isn't since i see an Orange on the license plate ) then I would go for it at the price its at. Of course you always want to bargain but its a bargain @ the price it's at if the swap itself was done right.
If you want to think about it another way, almost everything that makes the difference between an Ex and an Si has already been upgraded on this car. An Si with 67k miles goes for $10k.
Get a compression and leakdown test done first before you buy this thing. I would negotiate that the seller pick up that tab if it fails and you pick it up if it passes. Maybe shoot for $6.2k - cost of tests.

get a leak down and compression test done before you buy it. I had basically the same car and when i sold it i got 6600 but i would have taken 6 for it.

I wouldnt touch that car with a 10 foot pole.
I can tell you one of 2 things.
1) either the motor is not a real b16a2, in which case it most likely OBD1 and illegal to be in the car. (important for cali and emission bearing states)
or
2) That motor is most likely stolen, the VIN has been removed and you can see the remaining rivet holes.
Which means if you ever get stopped/checked, that cop has a reason to impound your car.
Better hope the owner has legitimate paperwork to give you for the sale of the motor.
