Re: $10 torque wrench !!!!! (shepworldwide)
i think its good enough for wheels, suspension, chassis stuff, which 90% of the people who buy it will use it for.
i would use a higher quality one for motor building, though.

Re: $10 torque wrench !!!!! (keithv)
I have a similar "clicker" type torque wrench made by Craftsman.... Should I be concerned with the fact that I built my motor with it??? I am looking into buying an electric Snap-On torque wrench....

cheap quality. Not very accurate after a little bit of use.
Not as consistant as a quality torque wrench, etc
Like stated above....for wheels it's fine, suspension, etc.
But for engine building....I'd rather use feel

Re: $10 torque wrench !!!!! (Chris y0!)
i'll have to do a comparison test with my friend's $200+ snap on one. see how close the "baseball bat" one is.
and i can see it now. harbor frieght back orders all 1/2" drive torque wrenches.

torque wrenches only have 90 day warranties at Sears. People don't know how to properly take care of them....so they go out of wack faster

Re: $10 torque wrench !!!!! (SOC EK9)
for example you MUST unscrew the torque setting after you are done, take it down past zero. if you leave it at like 75ft lbs then the spring system inside gets all streched out and causes bad inaccuracy. thats why there isn't a lifetime warrenty, because most people don't know how to correctly take care of them, so they don't want to be replacing tons of springs all the time. but then again majority of the people will not even be able to tell that their torque wrench is out of wack.
so remember always unscrew the torque settings to at or below zero, or remember to go get a new one every 89 days under warranty!

Re: $10 torque wrench !!!!! (SOC EK9)
people not using them properly. some torque wrenches are only meant to tighten one way and some people use them like damn ratchets or breaker bars. also, you have to take the wrench to it's highest setting and "break" it 6 times to get all the parts lubed up before you use it each day, and set it back to it's lowest setting after you use it. and don't take it under it's lowest setting.

Re: $10 torque wrench !!!!! (shepworldwide)
so, why is a clicker type bad for building an engine? I, along with several other people have built plenty of engines with the clicker type with nothing wrong. Please elaborate...
