$10/Month GPS car tracking
 

Well since my civic was stolen and recovered in 20 mins, I figured I would let people know of a cheap safety net in addition to additional security measures. I have this app on my iPhone called GPS tracker, its made by instamapper, which is Free. How it works

If you dont have an iPhone you can purchase the lowest price Boost Mobile ($49 or less) phone anywhere like Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

Steps: Taken from InstaMapper Site:

1. Buy a cell phone
2. Activate it
3. Create a free InstaMapper account
4. Install tracking software
5. Optionally, hardwire the cell phone to your car's battery

Basically it will update your location every 5 seconds and you can track it online for free. You basically pay .35 Cents per day for data on their pay as you go plan. Plus you get $5 free when you start a new account.

So for $120/year, I think I can feel safe to know where my car is at any time.

So your wondering how this compared with Zoombak that you see at AutoZone and other retailers

So basically your paying more and you dont have phone functionality if you ever needed it. Plus with the InstaMapper option your could call your phone and listen to the theves stealing your car too.

So I though I would just let the H-T community know about this awesome way to keep track of your car in the event that it did get stolen.

I wonder what might be better though? Zoombak looks pretty cool. For 5 bux more i know it would probably have better reception than boost phones which suck in reception.

Well placing it would be up to ever person but good places a person wouldnt check would be in the spare tire space, or under your armrest, engine bay, under dash, under the fender in a plastic bag, basiclly anuwhere a theif wouldnt imediatly look, because their in a rush to break the ignition switch and get out. I have lots of good hiding spots for mine =)

well yes that does depend on your area, in my area its good, but when it does get reception, the software will send it out and know where your car is

Well here in cali especially los angeles i recommend the zoombak for reception purposes...LoL

wait, sorry im a little slow, so you download the app on an iphone or any droid phone and install it there, then buy a prepaid phone or boost mobile and then install it on that also? you just track it on the iphone or droid phone? can you track it online?

No, if you have an android or iphone, you can use that, if you dont want to keep ur phone in ur car all the time, buy a boost prepaid phone.

I bought mine today and hooked it up, its working great, so no i can track my iphone and my car
