Default Comparing/Contrasting the Civic Sport HB & the VW GTI

If both the 2017 Sport HB and VW GTI S are the same price, which they are in real street price, which would you choose and why? Do you still consider the GTI to be the hot hatch benchmark? Not talking about Focus RS, STI, CTR, etc. as they are in a different class.

No competition for me, it'd be the VW. I hate the Subaru-esque styling of modern Civics. I feel that modern Honda cars have lost their originality and charm.

VW, this generation of Civic is hard to look at and not a fan of sloping hatch, seems to be a less useful hatch then the GTI. What i'd really like is a Fit Si.

Having owned both I can say the civic is definitely bigger, a lot more usable space in the hatch. We used to have trouble getting our stroller in the GTI, we got rid of it when baby #2 was on the way. Just took vacation in the civic last week and fit luggage for 4 in the back without even needing to remove the hatch cover.

The Civic HB! The VW looks like a snail. The HB looks a lot more agressive! I love the way it looks! Not only will you get lots of space and Honda reliability, you'll have a unique looking car. There's a crap ton of GTI's where I live.

Depends if you want to keep it long term or not. If you like the dashboard warning lights lighting up like a Christmas tree at 60k miles, get the VW.
