Default Air bag deployment due to false "impact". Suggestions?

My daughter's 2016 Civic Coupe front passenger side tire blew out at the side wall without hitting anything, it also caused the passenger sidewall air bag curatin to deploy. Cannot understand why?

It wasn't the tire that caused it, she hit something and bottomed out the car hard enough to cause the airbag to deploy. Tire damage will not cause an airbag to deploy. If she said she didn't hit anything she is not telling the truth.

Yessir. Even bottoming out wouldn't cause that. there was an impact somewhere.

Technically you could bottom out hard enough to set off the airbag. But you would need to like drive over a curb at 60MPH or something like that where the suspension rams into the undercarriage and shocks the whole structure..

There would need to be some side to side movement for the side crash sensors to trigger a side airbag. In an older car bottoming out could set off an airbag, newer cars like the new civic would need to hit a curb and have some side movement such as an impending rollover to trigger a side airbag.
