Tell Us What You Did To Your FG/FA/FD Today!
Just for fun.....
This is a copy of another thread but for the FG/FA/FD's (this section).
Today I get to see if I can find the idler mount that siezed and shredded on me last night on my way home from work:
Word of warning, as soon as the idler pulley begins making noise, replace it immediately.
Mine started being noisy in the morning after I got to work, didn't even make it home from work after ordering the pulley's that morning (idler and tensioner).

Sourced a 31175-PRA-000 idler mount from an 2007 Acura CSX for half of what it would have cost from Honda. Verified it was the same part by getting the part number from Acura and then checking it against the SI catalog.
Since I was there, I also fixed the aftermarket motor mount the previous owner botched completely. They broke the stud and there was a good centimeter gap between the mount and mount bracket on the motor on the only holding bolt. Cut the cone and the broken part off the stud and now it's a nice solid short stud.
Then replaced the tensioner pulley, new shiny part torqued to 41 ft-lbs.
Installed the new idler pulley to the CSX idler mount bracket at 16 ft-lbs.
Finally time to get that belt back into place.
And lastly, put the innovative motor mount back on and torque the modified bolt and nut to 54 ft-lbs.
Whomever did the motor mount install used the stock bolt and the threads don't go anywhere near the head of the bolt, so I broke out my 14x1.5 hex die and cut the threads to near the head of the bolt. This fixed the gap problem and let me torque the mount flush to the engine mount bracket like it should have been in the first place.
Car is back to sounding good and has two brand new idler pulley's.
Next chore is to replace the timing chain tensioner with the brand new one I have downstairs.
Not a bad days work.

That break sucks because you lose the water pump and the alternator... which doesn't allow one to travel very far before there is trouble. Great job on the fix. Incidentally, are you rocking a Coupe or a Sedan ??? I see it is blue... it wouldn't happen to be of the Mugen variety would it ???

Hey thanks! No, not the Mugen, 07 Fiji Blue Pearl Coupe with carbon fiber roof wrap.
I just found out about the water pump today when I was at Honda after the fix. Wanted to know what the large pulley was, only to learn it's the water pump run by the serpentine belt.
Soooo glad that as soon as I heard it go and the battery light came on, I pulled over on the side of the highway, shut the car off and called BCAA. The overheat would have been nasty.

Good that your little zoomer is missing out on the weather you are seeing currently. As it should, considering all of the upgrades and work you have put into it. My FA5 is an all weather attack cat that never sees a garage or cover at any time. it is my daily and even at -40C it is my ride to work.

Must be nice to be snow free already. We still have a foot of the crap on the ground and temperatures hovering at freezing during the day here...

I did this badass Halogen light double mod today! Idk the rules about linking to other forums, but this guy deserves the credit for this awesome mod, so I am linking him:
https://www.hidplanet.com/forums/for...-halogen-bulbs
Basically, you take some stock Halogen bulbs from other cars, and put them in our. The light output is AMAZING. I used 4 9012's because they are 65w vs 55w 9011. You will need to shave the 2 tabs inside the plug on the 9012's if you want to use 9012's all around. you can go hid or retrofit with hid or led, blah blah blah. I did led, they were trash. I have everything to go hid retrofit right now, which are actually for sale but I went with inexpensive and quick. So long story short, my led's sucked from the beginning and I got over it. Found this mod, here we are. Light output is like 100 times better than the oem and the led I had. I dont have pics lmao but take my word for it. Cheap easy mod, tons more light output on the road. Thats all I wanted. I cant stand the ugly yellowish color of oem bulbs, but the light output makes it worth it. PM ME if you have questions about anything and I can walk you through it.

I burnt the last of the life out of my clutch yesterday. Started the tear down on the 07 SI and ordered OE level Exedy clutch kit. It was delivered today.
Ordered new axle seals from Honda, will pick them up tomorrow.
Today I will go pick up a steel 4 foot pipe to be my top side engine support since I can't get the special tools used in the FSM that does the same thing.

Made good progress over the last couple of days. Never dropped the tranny from anything beyond a '95 so this has been a great learning experience.
I'm also happy to have my garage and not have to be hurried. Can take my time and work through each step as I get to it. FSM for the win!
Transmission mount out and shift linkage disconnected.
Engine bar (2 steel bars) in place, engine strapped to bar.
Engine mounts out except the passenger mount and subframe has been dropped, including the added aftermarket fame stiffener.
Cruzing right along for my first 8th gen major project and working solo.

Transmission is out! Slow process doing all of this solo without a lift but coming right along.
Today.... Flywheel comes out and goes to the machine shop. I then get to learn if it can be turned or if I have to buy a new one.
Be nice not to have clutch shudder/chatter when I'm done.
Addendum - Got the flywheel off today, too far gone to turn and reuse. And autopartsway.ca doesn't have the OEM exedy flywheel today they did last Thursday so instead of 123 dollars, I had to shell out 400 for the Exedy sport flywheel. Honda base price for their cast flywheel is 400 so I'm now sitting just under a grand on parts after 2 OEM foglights, rear main, axle seals and a couple of replacement bolts as well as another vtec filter/seal and the oil cooler oil seal. Can't find my vtec solenoid filter I already bought so had to buy another.... yay.
At least the car should be leak free and the cluthc should be good for another 5+ years assuming I break it in properly.

Re: Tell Us What You Did To Your FG/FA/FD Today!
Parts came in from Honda and my flywheel was delivered by UPS today.
Here is the burnt flywheel and pressure plate:
The new flywheel, Autopartsway.ca did not have the OEM Exedy flywheel so I had to shell out just over 400 for the "Sport" flywheel. Here is the box and installed:
Installed the OEM rated clutch and pressure plate:
And unlike the 92-95 transmission, this one I solo installed with my engine hoist and it mated up without a whole lot of headache. I was shocked. I did have to crawl under and twist and jiggle a little but that was it.
Putting all the bolts in I noticed one was missing. And based on the dirt wasn't there when I pulled them so I'm on hold until the bolt comes in from Honda tomorrow. Then I get to finish putting the car completely back together. I'm not going to run the car missing a bell housing bolt knowingly.
Oh and I said parts from Honda but didn't cover all I did today. I swapped out the fog light lenses for OEM Stanley fog lenses (one of the aftermarkets had a shattered lens). I replaced the rear main seal, replaced the oil cooler o-ring gasket and I replaced the vtec gasket/filter. Vtec solenoid was leaking. With the new axle seals already in, the car should be leak free now.

Today I finished putting the car back together. All the control arm bolts/nuts, the steering box stiffeners, the mud guard, the cold are intake, the wheel well covers, the transmission mount, the clutch slave cylinder, the air box bracket on the back of the tranny (holds a bit of wire harness), the ecu bracket, the battery shelf, the cowl and cowl plate, the wipers, plugged in the injector plugs, the MAF in the intake and put the wheels back on.
Been 3 long *** days putting the car back together. Not a job I want to ever have to do again or if I do, I'm not going to worry if it takes me a month to do it all. 10 days of suckage. But I have a new clutch and the car drives solidly again.
Oh how I want a 4 post lift in my garage......

Today I put my drivers side window back on track and reglued it to the regulator with permatex urethane adhesive. And then I did the oil change and have been letting the snow melt out of her as I try and keep the garage above freezing for the adhesive to cure.
