Re: Other Mods for k20z3 (FG_Coupe)
Lighter wheels or cams.
|
buddy club spec IV race cams.
u need advanced valvetrain to run them. but worth every penny imo. nothin sounds better than vtec w/ valvetrain and cams =]] |

Re: Other Mods for k20z3 (FG_Coupe)
You live in California. If you EVER plan on passing smog, you can forget about cams, at least until Hondata releases a programmable fuel tuning application for our car. Even then, you still may not be able to fuel tune it with cams to pass smog.
You want kick up the HP and still stay smog legal, then the Comptech SC is the best way to go in my opinion. The Stage I supercharger is CARB certified in CA. Once Hondata releases the fuel tuning application you can kick-up the boost with a smaller pulley. If you need to smog after you increase the boost, you only need to put the stage I pulley back on and re-tune. Having a CARB sticker is worth it's weight in Platinum. Yes, I know the DC race header is not smog legal either, but replacing a header is a lot easier than replacing cams if you have to smog your car. |

how large are Si injectors? Around 310cc's like the Type S or larger? Bc once you start hitting 210+, youll start to run out of injector.

what? turbines? you run a twin turbo setup? upgraded blowoff valve? a blowoff valve is hardly a performance mod but rather a device to eliminate compressor surge. octane booster is worthless as well. and for the OP...a handful of people have been sucessfull boosting their cars with whats available right now. I am curious to see more NA setups but we all know what we're waiting for. |

It is not about 4 years. If you get pulled over by a CHP (or any State, County, or City police in California) and they suspects the vehicle has been modified, they can do an inspection on the spot. You can refuse to open your hood without a warrant, but you can't stop them from looking under car. According to my neighbor, if they find modifications under the car, they have probably cause and can insist on you opening the hood. It really makes no difference at that point cause your already screwed. If they finds modification without a CARB sticker, he can write you a fix-it ticket. If they suspect any of the parts are stolen, they will impound your car. In addition, if they even suspect you have modified the vehicle but can't prove it at the time, they can request the DMV to require a smog before you can renew your registration. Even modification with a CARB can trigger a request to the DMV for a smog inspection. Btw, a cat-back without a CARB sticker is a ticket-able offense in California. A header without a catalytic converter is guaranteed. I speak of this based on the experience a neighbor kid had here with a Sheriff. The kids father is an attorney and when I discussed the issue his son was going through, even he expressed his surprise as to how much power law enforcement has pertaining to these issues. In most cases, the police don't really care unless they catch you racing around or have a vehicle with an exhaust loud enough to be annoying. Header & Apex exhaust sounds like it "could" fall into the annoying category. I am not trying to tell him what modification to do or not do, I am just trying to let him know that there "could" be consequences. I was offering a power solution with less risk. Perhaps an HFP axle back would sound nice with a BCRH/DCRH, I plan to do cams probably in a year... thats how long i think it will take for decent fuel management. With the BCRH larger piping should yeild better gains. |
