I own a 2009 civic lx.
A couple years ago my wife was involved in an extremely minor bump up that resulted in virtually no cosmetic damage, but did cause the seat belt tensioner in the drivers seat belt to lock up.
No airbags deployed. The SRS light has been on ever since.
I ordered a replacement belt from the local dealership and replaced it myself, but did not replace the buckle.
When I got around to taking the car to the dealership to get the SRS checked, I was told that I would need to replace the seat belt (already done), seat belt buckle, the SRS control unit, and the impact sensors. I dont remember the exact figure but i believe the total with parts and labor was roughly $1100.
I got a second opinion from a local shop that specializes in Hondas, and they also said that based on the code the standard procedure is replace the belt, buckle, control unit and any damaged sensors. They told me roughly 600 for all of that, which sounds a lot nicer.
But they also said its possible that all I really need is the control unit.
The local shop told me that once the control unit stores a code it has to be replaced. They cautioned tho that its possible that if I replace the control unit and not the other parts (buckle and impact sensors) that those parts, if damaged, may cause the new control unit to store a code again, meaning it would again need to be replaced.
So my questions are:
Can I in fact just replace the control unit and potentially be good to go? Can anyone confirm that after replacing the control unit, it could possibly end up storing a code from the existing parts and be rendered useless?
Where are the impact sensors located and how would I be able to tell which ones are in need of replacement?

If the sensors are shorted out, meaning closed, as soon as you plug the new control unit it will trigger a code. Now, by saying that I dont know how the sensors work. The belt buckle should be fine since I dont think it has any type of sensors, only a warning seat belt trigger but if it isn't too expensive, replace it.
