hit a raccoon $3000 in damage
I was coming home from work then BAM raccoon comes out of nowhere and gets sucked under my car into the radiator and destroyed that, the a/c and damaged the engine block. Absolutely no damage to my bumper tho and my car has less then 8k miles on it. Anybody know a good place for a radiator?

Holy crap! That sucks man. I ran over a skunk not too long ago and luckily got away with no damage. 3k is a b!tch! Looks like you just caught the worst end of the deal. Atleast you killed the sucker.

Radiator support damage is another story though.

Sometimes, but on the front end, it is usually less, because you just buy and paint/bolt on the new parts that get f**ked up. It's not like a quarter panel or roof where you either have to pull the dents/bondo/or skin a new quarter panel. Those things take time...the real thing that adds up quickly.
Radiator support damage is another story though.

Had the same thing happen to me about 6 months ago on my 07 civic hit a massive raccoon and pretty much tore the bumpers apart and blew the rad and pushed it in about 3 inches. 2600$ later it was fixed by the insurance company and doesnt count as a claim cause it was an act of god or something i didnt argue lol.

ahhh those damn coons! we get coons on our back porch all the time.... I was thinking that coon has to have a metal head or something to ruin your block. i can see him getting chewed up by the belts or something. GL on the repairs. I say post pics!

Re: hit a raccoon $3000 in damage
front end damage usually requires straightening the frame and welding in a new radiator support, the fact that the radiator is bad usually means that the support is also bad. the outside parts (lights, hood, bumper, etc) also can add up pretty quick, not to mention the parts in the engine bay (radiator, condensor, a/c lines, etc). there's more stuff to break in a front end crash than in a side or back crash.

i don't get it... change my tune about what? i've dealt with plenty of crashed cars before and my bro in law owns a body shop. work and parts all cost money in an accident. front end crashes usually cost more money to repair than a side or rear crash. my point is, $3k to repair a front end crash means that the crash isn't all that bad.

Re: hit a raccoon $3000 in damage
My point is you said "body work adds up fast". Body work doesn't consist of straightening a frame or a rad support. Sure, many body shops do those things, but the body of the car is the sheet metal (or plastic around the chassis (or frame). In a minor crash, the front of a car would usually require just replacing pieces and then painting them, instead of actually doing body work, because the pieces are so cheap. If his rad support is messed up $3k makes sense. Otherwise, it is a rip off. I know how much it costs to paint a new bumper/hood/fenders, and how it takes to put them on.

on my old ej8, it got rear ended at like 10 miles an hour by a truck. all it did was break a tailight, put a small hole in the bumper, and the trunk latch was off by like an 1/8 of an inch. and the estimate was $5800. no damage to the quarter panels at all.
why cant it be like the 80's where they bolted on the quarter panels?!?!?
i hate how now they are welded on =[

Because the "gapless" look is a lot more visually appealing.
I'm sure the opportunity to make a lot of money repairing quarter panels factors in there somewhere too lol.

yea i guess its a way to help body shops make more money.
but the simplicity of auto body repair is taken away.
