Help! Transmission Whining/Rubbing Sound
Hey Guys,
So for the last 3 weeks I've been hearing this noise coming from about 1.5 feet in front of the accelerator in the engine bay. It happens at between 3-4k rpms in 2-3-4th gear only.
The noise itself is like a "Whah-Whah-Whah-Whah-Whah-Whah-Whah-Whah" that only happens when the clutch is engaged under mild acceleration. It might be happening under hard acceleration but engine noice could be blocking it out.
I'm almost certain its a bearing on the tranny case as I've had this same problem with previous civics in the past. The good thing is that performance is not affected, but I don't want to let it go unrepaired if its gonna blow up in my face down the road.
Anybody ever have this before? How much am I looking at for repairs? I have a 2007 Civic Si Sedan, 31k on the odometer.
Any help you can offer would be sweet!
Thanks,
Nick

whah whah whah? What is that supposed to sound like? To me, it sounds like theres a trapped baby in your engine bay trying to get out. Post a video of the sound and you'll get more feedback probably. nobody knows what "whah whah whah" is.

I know exactly what your talking about. Mine only does this on a rare occasion. Not sure what the problem is. I also have a weird issue with my 2nd gear. Under hard acceleration when I go to shift into 2nd gear it feels like I have to have the shifter all the way back amlost like im bending the shifter just for it to grab 2nd gear.

Yeah I'm ordering some new tranny fluid right now. Funny thing is, my reverse gear sounds unusually loud now too. I know all Honda's have a loud reverse, but its definitely abnormal.
I took it to my guy and he said its probably not a big, and even if I wanted to open the tranny its gonna cost me to get it out. I'll take my chances for now.

My car has 95K on it and the trans is a little noisy in reverse, but it no louder than the other civic's and honda products I have owned.
Use a quality brand name lube buy honda lube if you want to, but I don't see any difference I ran mobil1 lube in my other civic sticks.
You will find it's easyer to add the new stuff if you take off the left front tire, and use a longer hose to put the lube in.
