Default evap temperature sensor should turn off the compressor when the evap freezes over

Has anyone ever had an evaporator temperature sensor on an 8th gen civic that actually did what it was supposed to do, namely to turn off the compressor when the evaporator freezes over ?

Both of my civics have had the evaporator freeze over due to a bad expansion valve and the compressor never cuts off. I even replaced the first one but when I tested the old one it tested fine. I just don't understand why these things never work.

Anyone ever had one out there that actually did its job ?

My 91 accord evap sensor has had no issues doing its job.
