Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter
Should probably note in the OP that it's not really and oil life, but a maintenance reminder. It schedules other things such as trans fluid, brake service, ect. Resetting the maintenance reminder this way resets all of it, not just oil life.

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter
I have a 11 month old insight with 11,000. miles just took it in for 1st oil change. the oil life meter was at 10%. I drive like a granny to get the high MPH. The dealer hit me for 59$ four quarts syn. and filter. Still not a bad deal for 11,000 miles only problems the car has had over the year is a faulty tire pressure monitering and a weather seal on the spare tire /cargo access door otherwise a great car

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter
OK, so what do I do if that doesn't work?
I've tried this procedure, exactly as described, 3 or 4 times now.
I've looked on half a dozen message boards and the procedure is always the same. So I know I'm doing it right.
Each time it blinks off after about 10 seconds. And it will stay off as long as I keep pushing on the reset button. But as soon as I release the button, it comes back on again.
I've also noticed it doesn't come on right away when I turn the car on. There is a slight delay, and then it comes on and stays on.
:full disclosure: My car does have the CEL on as well. Can this trigger the "Maintenance Required" light as well?
And maybe this is a question for a different thread, but my "Brake lamp" warning light comes on even though all of my rear lights (yes, even the high-mounted brake light) function perfectly.
Its a 98 Accord Coupe V6 Automatic LX.

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter
This may be somewhere in the manual, but I could not find it in there (I was kinda too lazy to look) so I just wanted to post it up so people could see and check if they wanted to.
VERY VERY SIMPLE!!
Here goes:
1) Insert Key into Ignition, go to II or "On" position (not "Acc").
2) Hit Sel/Reset until "Oil Life" comes up.
3) Hold for 10 seconds until it flashes.
4) Release
5) Hold again for 5 seconds and then it resets.
Hope this helped someone! It sure was great info for me!

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter
its recommended to change oil after 5,000 or 6,000 Km of driving, if you changed oil at 120,000 km's your next oil change is at 125,000 or as most new Honda's the oil change indicator lights up and tells you to change oil asap.
Thanks.

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter
Mine says change at 15%. I would think anymore is a waste of oil, time and money. Unless your engine is highly modified. But oil is cheap compared to a new engine.

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter (axtran)
Anyone know if the oil meter works by mileage reference or it actually calculates the oil life based on a sensor? For example if you've reset the meter at 50% will it reset and reconfigure it or it starts over at 100% even though your oil is used up like a dirty pair of panties?

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter
Does the owners manual show the procedure to reset oil life without resetting all of the maintenance trackers?
