DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter

This may be somewhere in the manual, but I could not find it in there (I was kinda too lazy to look) so I just wanted to post it up so people could see and check if they wanted to.

VERY VERY SIMPLE!!

Here goes:
1) Insert Key into Ignition, go to II or "On" position (not "Acc").
2) Hit Sel/Reset until "Oil Life" comes up.
3) Hold for 10 seconds until it flashes.
4) Release
5) Hold again for 5 seconds and then it resets.

Hope this helped someone! It sure was great info for me! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter (axtran)

Anyone know if the oil meter works by mileage reference or it actually calculates the oil life based on a sensor? For example if you've reset the meter at 50% will it reset and reconfigure it or it starts over at 100% even though your oil is used up like a dirty pair of panties?

nah no sensors here. that would be nice though.

im pretty sure it works by mileage and how much you rip on it. im at 1500 miles and it says 80% but i change mine at 4K no matter what.

I dont know how many times this must be covered but changing your oil before the meter indicates ~10% is RETARDED. You're doing nothing more than wasting oil , time, and money. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

yes, now we only need oil changes every 5,000!! w00t, unless your boosted, i'd still change every 3,000... but i dont know much about boost so thats just my edumakated guess

axtran 04-11-2007 09:07 PM

Yeah. I change only under 10% - at 3000 I checked the dippy and it was still pretty clear. But for gear oil (which I changed at the same time) there is a DRAMATIC difference when using Royal Purple Synchromax. Like ZOMG! different.

Denis85 04-11-2007 09:17 PM

So if someone is making 4000-5000 miles a year he should only change the oil once a year??? Not a smart thing to do https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Re: DIY: Reset your Oil Life Meter

oil should be changed out on a car that sits every 6months roughly. The indicator (oil life meter) bases some of its readings on key turns as well as some CEL's

ie. My car had a CEL for running rich in bank one. The CEL stayed on for about a day so mayb 5 key turns and on the 6th time starting the car it was gone. WHen i went to my buddies house around 3days later the code was still there. Its weird how it works

It's in your owner's manual. Why do you need photos?? It's not rocket science here.
